祇園祭の茶席に掛かる、表千家・即中斎宗匠の賛。
籤を引かずとも、毎年かならず巡行の先頭をゆく長刀鉾。
その揺るぎなき一番に、あやかりますように——と。

京の夏は、この鉾から始まります。

*”May we be blessed as the Naginata-hoko —*
*the one that never draws lots.”*

A verse by Sokuchūsai, tea master of the Omotesenke school, hung in the tearoom during Gion Matsuri.

Every year, this float leads the procession — its place never left to chance.

A quiet wish, that such steadfast fortune might reach us all.

its pale pink colour softens into shadow.
In fading, a flower finds its quiet beauty.
I almost put it away — but I’ll watch this quiet moment a little longer.

笹百合のうすもも色が陰によく似合います。
花は移ろいゆく姿に静かな美しさがある。
蕾の時に活けて、もうそろそろ花びらも落ちるし片付けようと思いましたが
あと少しだけ余韻を見届けようかな

These leaves turn white just around the solstice to guide tiny bees to their quiet, hidden flowers—and once their mission is complete, they gently return to pure green.

今日さっき、床の間に活けたばかりの初夏の花「半夏生（はんげしょう）」。
花が咲く時期になると、まるで半分お化粧をしたように葉が白く染まることから、「半化粧」とも呼ばれるそうです。
緑と白の清らかな対比が、蒸し暑い京都の午後にひとときの涼を運んでくれます。

2部屋だけの小さな宿で、京都の四季をお愉しみください。
