Visiting art museums is one of my favorite hobbies. Especially Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting), which actually inspires my work! Did you know that Nihonga is often painted on silk, just like kimono? 👘✨

The first slide shows "Bijin Kan-oh" (Beautiful Women Viewing Cherry Blossoms) by Shimomura Kanzan. He was a prominent Nihonga artist who was active from the Meiji era—when Japan opened up to the West—through the early Showa period.

As part of a government initiative, Kanzan traveled to Europe to study Western art. The second slide is his copy of Raphael's "Madonna of the Goldfinch," which he painted during his stay.

I was absolutely blown away by his skill! The fact that he could recreate a masterpiece by Raphael with such precision is incredible. 🤯🎨

It made me wonder... Could Western painters recreate Nihonga in the same way?

We all know Van Gogh was deeply inspired by Ukiyo-e, but he was influenced by the style rather than painting actual Nihonga. Western art often feels more challenging because of its realism and three-dimensional depth, but Kanzan’s work proves how versatile Japanese artists were.

Does anyone know of any Western artists who seriously studied and copied traditional Japanese paintings? I’d love to know! 👇💭

Following is from the musram explanation
This was an assignment at a study meeting for young artists at the Japan Art Institute. The theme assigned was "shinmitsu (縝密),” meaning meticulously attentive, thoughtful, and careful. The letter in the girl's hands is probably a love letter. The woman delivers it to someone she is in love with through the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Such tender psychological portrayal alluding to Heian literature is done in the guise of an Edo-period genre scene.

He is so gentleman. As you know, we offer the tea ceremony. If you don't study the tea ceremony, you don't need to follow the rules. But just in case, we show one how to do paper. He skipped one rule and later apologized me! He does not need to do! But Japanese philosophy, apologize is very important. I often get the question from Japanese why non-Japanese don't apologize since they know I have a German husband.
In Japan "I'm sorry" as an Admission of Guilt vs. In other courtiers a Social Lubricant
In Japan, phrases like "Sumimasen" (Excuse me / Sorry) function as a social lubricant. People often say it to acknowledge a minor inconvenience or simply to keep the peace, even if they aren't entirely at fault.
In many Western and other international cultures, however, saying "I'm sorry" is a formal admission of fault and responsibility.

In Japan owning up to your mistakes without making excuses is considered a highly noble and masculine trait in Japanese culture.
So he is a good man in Japan!

I put many padding him to dress Kimono nicely. Looks great! Fortunately we have many his size of Kimonos. He is kind of old Japanese man size and his philosophy as well!

Yukata for outgoing which kimono shop like us sell and ryokan Yukata are totally different. One our guest asked us if we have many sizes since she could not rent her size ryokan Yukata at there. Yes we have.

Even both are called "Yukata," the yukata you wear at a ryokan (Japanese inn) and the one you wear to a summer festival are completely different.
In short, the difference is like
"pajamas/loungewear" vs. "an elegant summer dress."

Ryokan Yukata (Sleepwear)
-Relaxing after a bath and sleeping

-Sizing Standard sizes (S, M, L) to fit anyone easily but normally only length diffrence not wide.

Outgoing Yukata (Outing Wear)
- Summer festivals, fireworks, casual outings.

-Sizing used to be tailored to fit specific body measurements. Now many premade Inc tall and plus sizes.

The Waist Fold (Ohashori)

Ryokan Yukata: It is designed to be put on in less than a minute. You just wrap it around you and tie it with a sash. It does not have the extra fabric at the waist.

Out going Yukata: It is worn just like a formal kimono. The fabric is much longer than your height, and you create a beautiful, decorative fold at the waist called Ohashori

The Obi (Belt) and How it is Tied

Ryokan Yukata: Uses a simple, narrow sash. It is tied loosely and flatly so that it won’t hurt your back even if you lie down on a futon.

Outgoing Yukata: Uses a proper, wide Hanhaba Obi. It is tied firmly, and the back is styled into beautiful shapes (like a butterfly bow) to make your back silhouette look stunning.

Fabric and Durability

Ryokan Yukata: Made for heavy-duty commercial laundry and high-heat pressing. The seams are reinforced by machine sewing.

Outgoing Yukata: Made for fashion and comfort in the summer heat. It features delicate fabrics (like see-through, mixed with h**p)

These above are mostly AI wrote. Even more there are many different..
Ryokan Yukata no back center sawn Senui, no under arm hole for women Miyatsu, no nape of nack hole Emon.

Thank you for your understanding!

By Ehime Sakaeya Ceo 🚨 Important Update for Shibuya & Harajuku Visitors! 🚨

Did you know? Starting yesterday, June 1st, Shibuya Ward has officially implemented a 2,000 yen fine for littering. 🚮💸(second photo)

As SAKAEYA KIMONO SHOP is located in the heart of Harajuku (part of Shibuya Ward), this rule applies to the area around our store. Our wonderful customers visit us because they truly love and respect Japanese culture, so we know you’re already mindful! But we wanted to share this as a friendly reminder to keep our beautiful streets clean. ✨

The Roots of Japanese "Trash Culture" 🍵 The Japanese habit of taking trash home actually has deep roots in Sado (The Way of Tea). In a traditional tea ceremony, there is a beautiful principle: "What you bring in, you take home."

For example:

Kaishi Paper: When you enjoy a sweet, you bring your own Kaishi paper and take it back with you after use.

Tea Meals (Kaiseki): If a meal is served, guests are traditionally expected to take home any leftovers, such as fish bones! 🐟

To prevent this burden on the guest, the host usually prepares the food meticulously—removing all bones beforehand—so that no waste is created. This is the ultimate form of Omotenashi (hospitality).

A Royal Anecdote 👑 Even the Imperial Family follows this spirit! It is said that Emperor Showa was taught from a young age to never leave anything on his plate.

One story says that when he was served a Kashiwa-mochi (rice cake wrapped in an oak leaf last photo) in May, he even ate the leaf! 🍃

💡 Pro-tip:

Sakura-mochi leaves: Edible and delicious! 🌸

Kashiwa-mochi leaves: Not meant to be eaten! 🚫🍃

Send out our sleeping Yukata to Romania! She traveled in Japan and loves the sleeping Yukata so ordered us. We have 7sizes yukata for women and men which is widest sizes choices. 2of them are Sakaeya original size. As you know, traditionally Yukata is white and indigo colored. Cotton can get dye from only indigo because of no protein like silk so we are traditional kimono shop so our Yukata follow Japanese traditional culture. All Yukata have back center sawn or Senui which is very important for kimono culture and women Yukata has even Miyatsu guchi (under arm must be open for women kimono). Pure cotton made in Japan. Can do international delivery too.
