Honno-ji

There is Daihonzan Honno-ji along Teramachi-oike street, it takes just a few minutes from our hotel.
In 1591, Hideyoshi Toyotomi move it there from original location (Oliginally, It was built along Aburakoji-street in fact)

It was said that Oda nobunaga commit hara-kiri(suicide) in Honno-ji with burning fire.
His vassal Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed him. This incident totally changed Japanese history.
Hideyoshi went back immidiately when he heard it despite he was in the battle between Mori (he ran around Chugoku region).
He came back only in 10 days. And he beated Akechi Mitsuhide.
It was a part of the reason Hideyoshi won this troubled period out.
On the other hand, Akechi barely escaped from it, but he was assaulted and died by fleeing soldiers at Ogurisu in Kyoto.
Its place is famous as the ended place of Akechi.

Oda nobunaga was died when he was 47.
Betrayal was common in this period but it was said that the way of his dying was magnificent and suitable for him.

★～井筒ホテルから…京都紀行～★

本能寺

今回は本能寺について。
当ホテルより歩いて5分くらいの場所、寺町御池に、大本山本能寺があります。
天正19年に、豊臣秀吉の命でここ寺町御池に移転されました。
本当の跡地は油小路通にございまして、石碑もあります。

天下布武をかかげていた織田信長ですが、1582年に家臣の明智光秀が謀反をし、
本能寺とともに焼死したといわれています。
ここで歴史が動きます。
その知らせを聞いた秀吉は、中国地方を制圧していた毛利氏との戦いを和睦に持ち込み、
わずか十日ばかりで戻り（中国大返し）現在の京都大山崎にて、光秀と激突。（山崎の戦い）
素晴らしい武功をあげた秀吉は、このとき、次の天下人に名乗りをあげたのです。

一方、合戦の中、命からがら逃げた明智光秀ですが、
京都伏見区の小栗栖にて、落ち武者狩りに遭い、命を落としたといわれています。
現在の小栗栖に、明智光秀最後の地ということで、明智藪と言うものもあるそうです。

47歳にして、この世を去った織田信長。
彼が好んだ敦盛の一説。
　人間五十年、下天のうちをくらぶれば夢幻の如くなりひとたび生を得て滅せぬもののあるべきか。
当時は50年が人の寿命とされていたのです。
信頼を置いていた家臣に裏切られ、本能寺の変で炎とともに散った信長の命。
信長らしい派手な最期だったと言えましょう。
