When I opened Akitsu in August 2025, I started under Japan’s Minpaku (private lodging) license, which limits accommodation businesses to 180 nights per year.
At the time, I thought it would take several years to reach that limit. Instead, by the end of May 2026, we have already booked 179 nights for the year.
As a result, we’ve had to restrict availability for the remainder of the year while we transition to a Ryokan/Hotel license, which I’ve been working on for the past two months. If all goes to plan, we hope to complete the changeover by the end of July and release additional dates for late 2026.
