At Jigoku Onsen in the morning, when smoke begins to rise from the restaurant’s chimney, it’s the signal that breakfast preparations have begun—30 minutes before your reservation time, the fire is lit in the kamado stove.
When the time comes, and you enter the restaurant, charcoal fires are already prepared on the tables.
In the kamado (Japanese traditional stove), freshly cooked warm rice is waiting for you.
At the counter, free drinks are lined up, along with sea*onal smoothies.
As you take your seat, you’re greeted by dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, along with fish and sausages to grill over charcoal. On the grilling net sits a small iron plate for making medamayaki (fried egg), and miso soup warmed by the charcoal fire is ready.
It’s a breakfast that gently warms both body and soul.
To finish, there is Jigoku Onsen’s signature French toast. The owner-chef personally grills the French toast over charcoal, and it is truly exquisite.
Enjoy your final bites together with café au lait at the table.
You don’t often come across a breakfast like this.
