Miyakojima is famous for producing some of the best mangoes in Japan, and right now, we are in the peak of the season🥭 You can find mangoes all over the island, and local cafes are filled with mango desserts.

This photo was taken right in our guesthouse kitchen📸 One of our guests tried cutting a mango into a "mango flower" (often called the hedgehog cut) for the very first time.

宮古島といえば、何と言っても美しいビーチ✨️
一方で、特に北側のビーチは沢山の漂着したゴミで一杯なのが、残念ながら現実です😢

美しい自然があるから、私たちはゲストハウスを運営させていただいている。
美しい海の一助となるよう、今日も宮古の海をキレイにし隊さんの定例ビーチクリーンに、フリーアコモデーションスタッフさん2名と一緒に参加してきました。

When people think of Miyakojima Island in Okinawa, they always picture our stunning blue ocean. ✨
But unfortunately, the sad reality is that a lot of trash washes ashore from the ocean, especially on the northern beaches. 😢

We are truly grateful that we can run our guesthouse thanks to this beautiful environment. To help protect our oceans, we joined a regular beach cleanup today along with two of our live-in staff members.
We participated with an amazing local group called "Miyako no Umi wo Kirei ni Shi-tai" ( 宮古の海をキレイにし隊 ). The photos show the incredible Before & After of the beach.

当ゲストハウスは繁華街からは若干離れますが、静かな環境で、ご利用頂いた方々からは良く眠れると好評です🌙✨

照明の電球を交換したら、影の模様がくっきりしました。

Our guesthouse is a little away from the busy downtown area, but that also means a quiet, restful stay. Many of our guests tell us they sleep very well here🌙✨

We replaced the bulb at the front entrance, and the shadow pattern now looks even clearer and more beautiful.

サクッとした食感の"アーサの天ぷら"や、鰹の出汁に島豆腐とアーサを入れた"アーサ汁"、独特の磯の香りが食欲をそそる、沖縄の郷土料理です。

全国的には「あおさ」と呼ばれ、正式名は「ヒトエグサ」、沖縄方言では「アーサ」として親しまれています。

宮古島では、当ゲストハウスから約1kmほど北上した場所に広がる、美しい大浦湾を中心としてアーサの養殖が行われています。宮古島漁協のアーサは、2022年に日本で初めてアーサ(あおさ)として『有機JAS適合認定』を受けました。

乾燥タイプのものもスーパーマーケット等で購入が可能です。お土産に是非いかがでしょうか。

CRISPY AOSA TEMPURA and a warm bowl of AOSA SOUP (island tofu + aosa in bonito broth) — these are local Okinawan dishes full of a unique sea-flavor that really whet the appetite.

Across Japan it’s often called AOSA. The scientific/official name is Hitoegusa(a type of green seaweed, scientific name: Monostroma nitidum), and in Okinawan dialect it’s lovingly called AASA (アーサ).

Around Oura Bay, about 1 km north of our guesthouse, aosa is farmed in the clear blue water. Miyako’s aosa became the first in Japan to receive Organic JAS certification (certified in late 2022). This means it is grown without synthetic chemicals or color-enhancing agents.

You can also find dried aosa at local supermarkets — it rehydrates quickly and makes a great souvenir to bring home.
