③ The tomb of emperor Nintoku ：One of the world’s largest mausoleums. Said to be made around the 5th century, it is the largest tomb in Japan, and is filled with a solemn atmosphere.

④Sakai city museum：Exhibitions regarding art, history and archeology is within this museum, making it a excellent visit to learn about the history of Sakai’s culture. There are also exhibits regarding unearthed artifacts from ancient tombs.

⑤Daisen park：A traditional Japanese garden made with gardening arts of old times. You can stroll around enjoying the Japanese modes within the garden with some sweets and a cup of matcha tea!
⑥Nanshu-ji temple：A temple that has ties with many figures of the samurai-era such as Miyoshi Nagayoshi、Sen no Rikyu、Shogun overlord Tokugawa Ieyasu、Sanada Yukimura. Other notable monuments include the nations prized Japanese rock-gardens, and the legendary tomb of Tokugawa Ieyasu the sh**un.
⑦The old Sakai lighthouse：The oldest wooden lighthouse in Japan. It is a known spot for its romantically beautiful sunset and nightscapes.

The long days of winter are chilling, but it has many wonders that can only be seen within the season.
One is the romantic illumination events that are held all across Japan.
Today we will introduce the prominent ones that are in Osaka city.

★”Midosuji illuminations”
A 4 kilometer pathway of illuminations that holds the world record that goes to Umeda to Nanba. Until December the 31th, Osaka’s central Midosuji’s maidenhair trees and buildings will be bathed in a light of brilliance with eight themes such as ”stardust” and “columns”. If you are walking near Midosuji, enjoy the lit festival”

★Nanba light journey
Osaka’s downtown area, “nanba”. This winter too they will hold an illumination event in 6 facilities a total of 7 hundred thousand LED lights until February 25th!

◇Tips and notes for spending a new year’s day in Japan◇

This year only has one month to go.
Every timing of this year, we are preparing the largest holiday celebration of the year. “Oshogatsu” or new year’s day. Today, we will introduce a few of Japanese traditions you can follow if you are in Japan for new year’s eve.　

First is the year-crossing noodle, eaten on the 31st. The reason why it is eaten on this date has many theories such as “longevity”, and “family bonding”. Commonly, the year-crossing noodle is topped with a prawn tempura, so if you get to try it, we recommend you to get one with your noodle.

Also on the night of the 31th, would be the annual “red and white singing festival” in which male and female singers will compete. The program has been on for 67 times since 1951, and it is common for families to watch this program and go to the local shrine to pray.
To thank the gods for last year, and to pray for safety and peace for the next year, Japanese people traditionally visit temples or shrines on new year’s day. While some go to their nearest places, some will even travel far lengths to visit famous places of prayer. After returning from the shrines or temples, families will eat a special meal called “Osechi” which has various ingredients to celebrate the occasion.
Our Hotel Agora Osaka-Morikuchi has a new year’s exclusive buffet, starting from 1/1 to 1/3. We have teppanyaki, sushi, crabs and large prawn fries with a total of around 60 different menus for you to try!
