かやぶきの里から車で10分ほどの知見谷にある正法寺は、その昔、妙顕寺の実質的な拠点となっていたこともある、立派なお寺です。境内の奥に約600年前に祀られたと伝わる七面大明神が、今も大切に受け継がれています。
一度は享保20年（1735年）の大洪水で、お堂もろとも流されてしまいましたが、平成になって、この場所の土の中から鰐口（わにぐち）が見つかりました。
それが再興のきっかけとなり、平成4年（1992年）に七面大明神は再びこの地へお迎えされました。
七面堂の背後には、美しい七面の滝があります。いくつもの段を流れ落ちる滝で、かつては滝行も行われていたそうです。
また、境内には樹高約30m、幹周約4mの大イチョウがそびえています。南丹市の天然記念物にも指定されており、秋には境内一面が黄金色のじゅうたんに包まれるそうです。
毎月19日にはお講が行われ、今も地域の方々が集まり、祈りの時間を大切に守り続けています。
こうした小さな物語が息づいているのが、比叡山や北陸方面とも深く繋がってきたこの地域の魅力の一つです。

🍃 Hidden Gems of Miyama
Just a 10-minute drive from Kayabuki-no-sato, Shohoji Temple sits quietly in Chimi Valley. The temple was once an important center for Myokenji Temple, and is home to Shichimen Daimyojin, a guardian deity believed to have been enshrined here some 600 years ago.
The original hall and Shichimen Daimyojin were swept away by a great flood in 1735. Centuries later, a waniguchi (a traditional temple gong) was discovered buried in the ground here. This unexpected discovery led to the restoration of the shrine, and in 1992, Shichimen Daimyojin was welcomed back to this place.
Behind the hall is the beautiful Shichimen Falls, cascading down a series of rocky steps. It is said that ascetic practices were once carried out here.
The temple grounds are also home to a magnificent ginkgo tree, standing around 30 meters tall with a trunk circumference of about 4 meters. Locally designated as a heritage tree, it is said to transform the temple grounds into a golden carpet each autumn.
On the 19th of every month, local people still gather here for a traditional Buddhist observance, keeping this quiet place of prayer alive to this day.
Stories like these are part of what makes this area of Miyama so special—a place with deep historical connections to Mount Hiei and the regions to the north.
