Stay & Celebrate the New Year at a Traditional Ryokan
New Year’s Mochi Pounding Experience (January 1–3)
Celebrate the New Year not just as a visitor, but as a guest staying at a traditional Japanese ryokan.
During the first three days of the year (January 1–3), overnight guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary mochitsuki (mochi-pounding) experience, a cherished Japanese New Year tradition passed down through generations.
After a restful night in a tatami room and a soothing hot-spring bath, begin your morning by gathering with fellow guests in a festive atmosphere. Using a wooden mallet (kine) and mortar (usu), freshly steamed rice is pounded into soft, warm mochi—guided by our staff so that even first-time visitors can participate with ease.
Freshly made mochi is then served to our staying guests, symbolizing good health, happiness, and prosperity for the year ahead.
By staying with us over the New Year, you can experience:
• A peaceful ryokan stay surrounded by winter scenery
• Traditional Japanese hospitality (omotenashi)
• A hands-on cultural experience available only to overnight guests
Welcome the New Year slowly and meaningfully—
with warmth, tradition, and a stay that becomes a memory.
