The 2025 Tōka Ebisu Festival in Osaka will take place from January 9th (Thursday) to January 11th (Saturday), spanning three days.

The tradition of holding the Tōka Ebisu Festival centered around January 10th began because this date was considered to be the day when **Ebisu-sama**, the god of good fortune and prosperity in business, would leave for his "work trip" or "journey for the year." It is believed that on this day, Ebisu-sama would leave to bless merchants and businesses, bringing good fortune for the coming year.
The festival and rituals, known as the **Ebisu-kō**, were held by merchants and businesspeople as a way of sending off Ebisu-sama. Over time, these rituals became more popular, particularly in places like
Osaka's Namba Ward (Imamiya Ebisu Shrine)and
Nishinomiya City in Hyogo Prefecture (Nishinomiya Shrine),
where people gathered to pray for business prosperity. This evolved into the current version of the Tōka Ebisu Festival, which remains a significant event in Osaka today.
The **Tōka Ebisu Festival** (十日戎, Tōka Ebisu) is an annual festival dedicated to **Ebisu-sama**, the god of prosperity and good fortune in business.
Affectionately called **"Ebessan"** by locals, this festival is a celebration of one of the **Seven Lucky Gods** (七福神), **Ebisu-sama**, and during the event, people pray for prosperity in their businesses.
In the Kanto region, people traditionally pray for business success at the **Tori no Ichi** festival, where they buy **kumanoko (decorative rakes)** as a symbol of good fortune.
In contrast, in the Kansai region, including Osaka and other areas of western Japan, people also purchase **kumanoko** during the **Tōka Ebisu Festival** to wish for business prosperity in the coming year.
