June marks the start of Otaru’s grand festival season⛩️

From 12 to 14 June, the annual Temiya Matsuri will be held at Otaru Inari Shrine in Temiya.

Perched atop the steep “Hagemashi-zaka,” the shrine is usually a challenge to reach, but during the festival, a temporary altar is set up at the bottom of the hill, making it easy to pay respects without climbing.
Visitors can also enjoy the unique scenery of Otaru, famously known as the “City of Hills.”

For three lively days, the festival comes alive with food stalls, portable shrines (mikoshi), celebratory rice cake tossing, and more.
