Feel the electrifying energy of the Awa Dance Festival, then enjoy a short visit to Shodoshima Island, known for its peaceful scenery and relaxed atmosphere.

On the first day, experience the world-renowned Awa Dance Festival in Tokushima Prefecture, one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional festivals. Held over five days each summer, it fills the streets with around 100,000 dancers and draws more than one million visitors from across Japan and beyond. 💃🕺

With S-class seats, you can enjoy the energy of the festival from an excellent viewing spot and fully take in the excitement of the dancers and the crowd. 🔥🔥

On the second day, the journey continues to Shodoshima, part of a national park known for its calm sea views, greenery, and relaxed island atmosphere. In the mild climate of the Seto Inland Sea, olive groves flourish here, and art installations add to the island’s distinctive charm. 🌿🌿

Shodoshima has also appeared in several well-known Japanese films, giving parts of the island a beautifully cinematic feel. 😉

Shodoshima is also a wonderful place to visit in autumn, and limited-time bus tours during the autumn foliage season are available as well. 🍁

🌿 A Day in a Rural Japanese Homestay.
What if your trip to Japan felt less like sightseeing and more like being welcomed into everyday life?
Today, let us take you to Nanbu Town in Tottori, where a local homestay called Shimizugawa is set in a traditional Japanese house over 100 years old. Instead of luxury amenities, what you’ll find here is something far more memorable: the chance to experience everyday life in rural Japan. 🏠

Harvest vegetables from the fields, cook together, try tea ceremony experiences, and enjoy hands-on local crafts. These are the kinds of moments that turn a trip into a real connection. 🌲😆

There are more than 10 seasonal activities to choose from, and they change throughout the year. Many international visitors come here specifically to enjoy experiences that can only be had in that particular season.

As the host warmly says, even if you don’t speak the same language, a translation app is often enough—the most important thing is simply enjoying the experience together. ✨

And that spirit of welcome can be felt throughout the town. From the people you meet to the slower pace of life, Nanbu Town offers a kind of warmth that stays with you long after your trip.

If you’re hoping to go beyond sightseeing and experience a more human, heartfelt side of Japan, this may be exactly the journey you’re looking for. 🥰🎶

✉️In addition to Shimizugawa, Nanbu Town also has seven other local homestays. The Nanbu Town Tourism Association can help arrange a host based on your travel dates, group size, and preferences. Please note that inquiries are handled in Japanese by email or phone.

📍 Nanbu Satoyama Stay

✨ A breathtaking dance of 20,000 lights
For just two weeks from late June, Nichinan Town transforms into a dreamlike landscape, where thousands of fireflies light up the night like fallen stars. 😍✨

Fireflies can live only in exceptionally clean water, which is why they have become increasingly rare in recent years. Yet in Fukumaki, around 20,000 fireflies drift through the early summer darkness, creating a scene of quiet beauty. 🌟🌟

In the stillness of night, countless tiny lights flicker through the air, turning the landscape into one of Tottori’s most delicate and unforgettable seasonal sights.

At Fukumaki Firefly Village, visitors can follow a 1-kilometer walking path where fireflies gather, offering a peaceful and immersive way to experience this fleeting natural wonder 🚶🎶

To help protect this fragile habitat, visitors are kindly asked to avoid bringing strong lights. A shuttle bus operates between Michi-no-Eki Nichinan Hino River Village and the firefly site to help reduce light impact. Please check the official website for details.
