Weather forecasts higher-than-average December precipitation, with the risk of heavy snow!
The Niigata Regional Meteorological Observatory released its three-month forecast for the Hokuriku region on 22nd September, covering the next month through till December. They are forecasting that precipitation in the Hokuriku region (including Niigata and Nagano Prefectures), is expected to be higher than average this December.
Recent data shows the region has been experiencing higher-than-average precipitation in December, increasing the risk of heavy snowfall due to intensified winter monsoons caused by rising sea surface temperatures and climate change.
The observatory is urging people to prepare early, as there is a risk of heavy snow if cold air intensifies.
According to the forecast, precipitation is expected to be "nearly normal" in October and November, but "heavier" than average in December due to a strengthening winter pressure pattern. If cold air intensifies, there is a risk of heavy snow.
Additionally, due to the tendency for warm air to cover the area, temperatures are expected to be "higher" than average in October and "normal or higher" in November. However, a complete reversal is expected in December, with winter pressure patterns strengthening, resulting in "normal or lower" temperatures.
