The 1,000-year-old tradition keeping our guests safe 🌿

Notice the intricately shaved wood carvings hanging in our entryways? This isn’t standard interior decor—it’s the traditional INAW, an ancient Ainu craft used to convey respect to KAMUY (spirits) and safeguard a home.

In Ainu culture, INAW are carved from fresh wood by skilled human hands. Because each item is shaped individually using natural branches, every single piece carries its own unique form and character.

We sourced these two hand-carved pieces from Kiosk Epere, near Lake Toya and placed them at Atuy’s entrance and ground-floor guest room to act as protective house guardians (CHISE-KORO-KAMUY). For travelers seeking more than just a place to sleep, Atuy offers a deeply respectful connection to local heritage, combined with the calm, restorative comfort of a private lodge just minutes from the Upopoy National Ainu Museum.

Atuyの入口や客室に飾られている、繊細な削り花の木彫り。これは単なるインテリアではなく、カムイ（神々）へ敬意を表し、家を守るためのアイヌの伝統的な祭具イナウ（inaw）です。

アイヌ文化において、イナウは職人の手仕事によって作られます。自然の木から手作業で削り出されるため、形も風合いもひとつとして同じものはありません。

洞爺湖のキオス・エペレでお迎えしたこの2つのイナウは、Atuyの玄関と客室を守るチセコロカムイ（家の保護神）として大切にお祀りしています。ただ宿泊するだけではない、地域の歴史や文化に深く触れる体験と、ウポポイ（民族共生象徴空間）近くの静かな空間での温かい滞在をお届けします。
