We have kept the logo from ‘Tsukino’, the Middle Eastern restaurant that used to operate here. Every now and then, people from Arabic-speaking countries notice this logo, written in Arabic script, and stop to say hello.

We have chosen warm, incandescent-coloured bulbs for all the lighting. The shape of the light fittings has been selected to suit their specific locations.

Around the bar, we have chosen small, exposed pendant lights and adjusted their position so that the light falls around the faces. This is a design choice intended to create a bright, warm atmosphere.

This Persian-style carpet was purchased when I used to run a Middle Eastern restaurant. Oriental décor suits our living room—which feels like a secret cave—perfectly.

“What is this place?” “A café?” “It’s a hostel.” “There’s a plant in the bathtub!”—such comments could be heard all around.

The bathtub, serving as a planter, was filled with vibrant plants, and there was a mysterious logo written in Arabic. As various elements came together, the exterior had taken on an air that made one wonder, “What on earth is this place?”
