In Japan, we have something called a kotatsu.
It’s a low table with a heater underneath and a blanket that traps the warmth, so you can sit with your legs inside and stay cozy.

Kotatsu has been part of Japanese life for hundreds of years, originally used as a way to survive cold winters in traditional houses.
Even today, many Japanese families still gather around the kotatsu to relax, eat, and spend time together.

Our kotatsu is available in the guest house family room — perfect for slow, cozy winter evenings.

ヒーターがついた低いテーブルに布団をかけて、その中に足を入れてあたたまる、日本ならではの暖房です。

こたつは何百年も前から日本の暮らしの中にあり、寒い冬を乗り越えるための工夫として使われてきました。

Please note that the nearby public bath, Yutopia, located just across from Cup of Tea Guesthouse, is closed for construction until the end of February.

We understand this may be disappointing for guests who were looking forward to using the bath.

Inside the guesthouse, we have two comfortable showers available at all times.

The Takayama Autumn Festival takes place on October 9–10.
A tradition since the Edo period, this festival celebrates a bountiful harvest.

During the day, elaborately decorated floats parade through the streets, with mechanical puppets performing.
At night, countless lanterns light up the town, creating a magical evening festival.

For these two days, Takayama is filled with light, music, and the spirit of autumn.
