【Kicking off in May of 2026】

Communities around Iwase have begun to create the Hikiyamas for the Iwase Matsuri festival.
It is always an interesting-fascinating part of the Japanese culture. 👍

Many non-Japanese have yet to witness the excitement of 4 tons of artistically painted wood slamming together by over 60 people trying destroy their neighboring town’s float.
Luckily, the secret is safe, mostly only locals enjoy this 3 day event.

Shirokuma will be watching, and will update as we approach the day in May.🐻‍❄️🐾

【Open for Business 2026】

March 12th was opening day.
Shirokuma Inn welcomes you 2026.🐻‍❄️

Our first guests were from Singapore staying 4 nights.🇸🇬
They came to enjoy cycling, fresh air, clean water and Sushi etc. etc..
Although, they wished the weather was a little warmer.

【Welcoming the season of 2026】

Starry, Starry Night, as the days grow longer, Shirokuma has woken from his long winter slumber. 🐻‍❄️

The Inn is being prepped for 2026 arrivals, which begins on March 12. Our little town of Iwase will have some notable changes, new restaurants, bars, and a Sushi School.

A few interesting points about this year’s reservations, people/guests are staying longer.

People are realizing Toyama is NOT a location, It is a DESTINATION!

そして、しろくまインは2026年のシーズン到来（3月12日）に向けて準備中です。

私たちの小さな町・岩瀬には変化が訪れています。新しいレストラン、バー、そしてすし職人学校が誕生しました。

今年の予約の興味深い点としては、滞在期間が長くなっていることが挙げられます。

人々は気付き始めています―富山は単なる「場所」ではなく「行くべき場所」なのだと。

【Hokuriku Sushi Academy】

The Hokuriku Sushi Academy, the region's first sushi chef training school, opened on March 5th.

The first class of students will begin classes on March 9th.

The kitchen inside is a wonderfully designed with an open-ceiling area utilizing the building's original beams, creating the freedom and brilliance while making sushi is fantastic. My favorite part, though, was seeing the sign for “Sato Fishing Tackle Shop” transformed into “Sushi Chef School.” It's also convenient that you can buy fishing gear and bait there.

It's exciting to think that many sushi chefs will set out from here and go on to shine both domestically and internationally.

Shirokuma says to all first-generation students: Ganbatte! starting Monday.

３月５日に開校した北陸初のすし職人養成学校「北陸すしアカデミー」。
３月９日から第一期生の受講が始まります。

校内のキッチンはもちろん建物の梁を活かした吹き抜けも、フリースペースもとても素敵ですが、一番気に入ったのは「佐藤釣具店」の看板が「すし職人学校」に生まれ変わっていたところです。釣り具やエサが買えるのもいいですね。

ここからたくさんのすし職人のみなさんが旅立って行き、国内外で活躍することになるのだろうと思うとわくわくしますね。

まずは第一期生のみなさん、月曜から頑張ってください！

【Jirokichi and the Storytellers】

今日は富山市の「くすりの語り部」の方々が長者丸と次郎吉のパネルを見に来てくださいました。

良いお天気だったので、裏庭のパティオに関連書籍やパネルを準備してお迎えしました。

「浦方の井戸」の存在をご存じなかった方もいらしたようで、帰りにみなさんで立ち寄って行かれたそうです。短い時間でしたが、楽しんでいただけたようで良かったです！

パネル等を次郎吉研究会の方からお預かりしてからずいぶん経ちましたので、そろそろ返却を、、と考えていたところにぴったりのタイミングでご連絡いただきました。ご縁を感じますね😊

最後に熱心な方たちに見ていただけて良かったです。
次郎吉さんも喜んでいることでしょう！

Today, members of Toyama City's “Medicine Storytellers” group came to see the panels about Chojamaru and Jirokichi.

Since the weather was nice, we set up related books and panels on the patio in the backyard for them to view.

Some seemed unaware of the existence of the “Urakata Well,” and mentioned they'd stop by on their way home.
Though it was a short visit, I'm glad they seemed to enjoy it.

It's been quite a while since we received the Jirokichi related material, so I was just thinking it was time to return it back to the Jirokichi Research Society... their contact came at the perfect moment. It feels like fate and destiny.

Also, I'm very glad such enthusiastic group of people came to see it. Jirokichi himself must be over-joyed, wherever he is !!!!???
