Have an inspiring Japanese bar experience!

We opened in the spring of 2021 as a bar specializing in Japanese whisky attached to the guest house "ALBERGUE KODO".
There are only 2 counter seats in the bar, so you can enjoy whisky in a private space.
Over 200 bottles of Japanese whisky are available in the back bar. There are also Wakayama prefecture's specialty plum wine, Wakayama craft beer, and Wakayama gin.
☆Only ALBERGUE KODO guests or members can enter the bar.☆

ゲストハウス「ALBERGUE KODO」の横に、ジャパニーズウイスキー専門のバーをこっそりとオープンしました。看板も連絡先も表示してません。本来はゲストハウスの宿泊客の方の為のバーですが、店主の直接の知り合いや友人の紹介があればご利用可能です。
一見さんお断り、カウンター２席（狭くて良いなら３席）のみの秘密基地の様な会員制のバーとなりますので、ご来店の際は必ず事前に連絡を下さい。都合が合えば２４時間いつでも開店します。

Just got back to Nachi after a weekend spent hiking the Kumano Kodo!⛰⛩🙏

Began in Tanabe and started hiking the Nakahechi route from Takijiri-oji. Pilgrims have walked this way for over a thousand years! After a good 6 hours of hiking, I took a break in Chikatsuyu village (Cabelo Coffee was a nice spot to relax and enjoy hand roasted coffee😋 )

From Hosshinmon-oji (an important gate to the sacred area of Hongu) I enjoyed a beautiful hike to ⛩Kumano Hongu Taisha ⛩ Saw many Jizo-san along the way, protecting travelers and children. These Jizo san were also often used as a sort of spiritual clinic to help with back pain, tooth pain, and safe childbirth.

Finally I made it to Yunomine onsen where I took a rejuvenating dip in the world heritage onsen, つぼ湯 (Tsubo-Yu) 😌😌

A fun weekend here in Nachi-Katsuura with two festivals in one day!!

☀️🐟 First was a fishing festival in Katsuura to bring good luck and bounty to the town which is well known for its まぐろ (tuna) fishing. It was a lively and exciting event! Young men sing as they paddle wooden boats around the harbor and mikoshi (portable shrines) are paraded around the town. ☀️🐟

🏮 In the evening was Nachi’s local Bon Odori festival! Bon Odori is a commemoration of ancestors and a fun day for the family :) We danced under the full moon and enjoyed games, food, and はなび (fireworks). 🏮

Our guesthouse has reached it's 2nd anniversary!

Even if we are closed in winter and during weekends, our small traditional house has received more than 700 guests from all over the world the past two years.
We are very grateful to all of the wonderful guests who came to our house with a true love for the Japanese culture.
Also, thanks to their feedback, we received 96% of 5 stars on Airbnb and a 9.5 score on Booking.com.

All of this was possible thanks to a strong support from my family, my company's staff and especially from the 15 helpers who worked hard to keep our place clean and make a wonderful atmosphere.
They also helped me a lot to improve my English skills.

I know that it's only two years, but to me it's a great honor to host and see people coming here again or just coming because they heard about our place from previous guests.

I would like to always keep a connection between people, this is the most important thing to me.
Our guesthouse is a place where people from different horizons can meet, share or even start a relationship.

I wish the best for all of you.

The NACHI WATERFALL is one of the highest in Japan: 133 meters high! 💦⛩
It is located on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️, which was included on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2004! 🏆
Soooo wonderful 🌿🤩

In Japan 🇯🇵⛩ there is a clear separation between the “inside” 🏠 and the “outside” 🏡 of a house!
Inside you must wear your slippers (スリッパ) !
And outside you must wear your Wooden Japanese Clogs called Geta (下駄) !

Sunday’s walk to Nachisan - daimonzaka walking trail on Kumano Kodo. In this annual event (accuring every 4th sunday in October), buddist munks lead the way with the unique sound of blowing in cone shells, followed by men in traditional samurai armor and women in kimono and zōri (while hiking!).

It was amazing to take part in this traditional event and see all the men and women all dressed up. It’s also a good opportunity to wear the samurai armor or kimono yourself!
