🎒We often get asked what is a good idea to bring, here are a few hints:
・Thermal Underwear, we practically live in ours
・Good shoes, gum boots are the local favourite but anything that will keep your feet dry and warm
・Ski Gear if have it or can rent up here including outer wear
・Otherwise just the basics and a healthy respect for the local customs
・One last thing! A sense of adventure for the great food and magic onsens

50,000 followers or 5 man - Thank you
What a journey it has been.
It all started more than 20 years ago as a humble little blog on our website. Back then, it was mainly a snow report for the handful of people who used to make the journey up to Nozawa to visit us. There weren’t many of you back then! 😊
And, of course, there was no social media. 😉
As social media arrived, things started to grow. What began as a simple snow report soon became a place for people from around the world to follow everything happening in Nozawa Onsen — from the latest snowfall and powder days to village life, events, people, seasons and all those little moments that make this place so special.
First came Facebook, where we now have more than 33,000 followers, and then Instagram — where today we are incredibly proud to reach 50,000 followers. 🙏
A huge and heartfelt thank you to all the photographers, writers, poets and everyone else who has contributed along the way. So many of you have helped tell the story of Nozawa over the years.
You know who you are. ❤️
And most of all, a massive thank you to all of you who follow, like, comment, share and continue to enjoy our little window into Nozawa Onsen.
You make those early, freezing, snowy mornings — standing outside and pushing the shutter button with cold fingers — all worth it! 😂❄️📸

ONLINE BOOKINGS ARE OPEN FOR NOZAWA HOLIDAYS! ❄️
Bookings have been open for some time now, and January and February are already heavily booked, following a huge volume of enquiries for the coming season.
It’s pretty amazing to think how far things have come. When we started 22 years ago, our very first season saw just 50 overseas guests staying with us in Nozawa and they were the only ones. Fast forward to today and the demand for Nozawa Onsen is stronger than ever 😊
There are still some great gaps available, though.
🏡 Taki No You Lodge, sleeping up to 16 guests, is available from 14 February for one week.
🎄 A number of our local lodges still have good availability over Christmas and New Year.
🏔️ And from late February onwards, there is much more choice across our lodges, houses and apartments, with the ski season continuing through mid-April and often beyond.

Seasonal Shift coming to Nozawa

Last night’s incredible Autumn Lantern Festival was a beautiful reminder that the seasons are changing here in Nozawa Onsen.
The warm days of summer are slowly giving way to crisp mountain mornings, cooler evenings and the first colours of autumn beginning to spread through the valley. 🍂

Before long, the leaves will be glowing gold, orange and red across the mountains, the air will have that unmistakable bite, and the pace of village life will begin to shift towards winter. Autumn is an amazing time to visit Nozawa and we are doing great deals so email [email protected] to book

The first snowflakes.

Usually, we start watching the upper slopes of Mt. Kenashi for the first signs of winter in early to mid November. The first dustings often disappear again, but sometime around mid-to-late November the snow can make its way down into the village. Last season, Nozawa saw its first snowfall at village level on November 19, with around 15cm falling in one day. This shot is from that day
Then things can change very quickly.

The mountains turn white, the snow shovels come out, the onsens feel even better, and Nozawa transforms from a beautiful autumn village into the winter wonderland we all know and love. ⛷️❄️

Meet Reo 👋⛷️
This summer, we’re excited to have Reo join the Nozawa Holidays team as an intern.
Reo is a university student and member of his university’s ski club, where he competes and trains throughout the year. He’s spending his summer here in Nozawa Onsen, combining hands-on work experience with his passion for skiing.

His days start early, helping our team prepare the villas, assisting with guest departures and getting things ready for the next arrivals. Once the work is done, it’s time to grab his skis and head up the mountain for training. 🎿
And when the skiing and work are finished, Reo gets to experience another important part of life in Nozawa, the community. He’s been meeting other seasonal workers, connecting with people from different teams around the village and enjoying the quieter side of Nozawa during summer.

For us, having young people like Reo join the team is about more than just work. It’s about giving the next generation of skiers an opportunity to experience life in a ski village, learn the hospitality business from the inside, build new skills and train in an environment where skiing is part of everyday life.

Nozawa Onsen has an incredibly deep connection with competitive skiing. The village has produced 16 Olympic skiers, and athletes continue to come here throughout the year to train. Skiing isn’t simply an activity here, it’s part of the village’s identity and culture. 🇯🇵⛷️

We’re really happy to have Reo with us this summer and look forward to watching his skiing develop over the coming months.
Work. Train. Learn. Ski. Repeat.
Who knows where this journey might take him next! 🤞⛷️

Summer at Villa Nozawa 🌿
Some came for the mountains.
Some came for the festivals.

There were days spent cycling, hiking and trail running through the green mountains. And there were slower days, cooking with local summer vegetables, soaking in the onsen, or simply enjoying the quiet of Nozawa.
