今年の福岡の桜開花予想は3/20、満開予想日は3/29だそうです。八女の古民家ホテルCraft Inn 手[té]の周りにも桜の名所があります。

その一つがCraft Inn 手[té]から歩いて行ける距離にある無量寿院さん。無量寿院は738年に創建され、1601年に現在の場所に移築された歴史ある寺院です。参道の桜のトンネルや、境内に咲き誇る桜をぜひご覧ください。

🌸 Cherry Blossom Season at Craft Inn Te 🌸

The cherry blossoms in Fukuoka are forecast to begin blooming around March 20, with full bloom expected around March 29 this year.

Around the traditional townhouse hotel Craft Inn Te, you will find several lovely spots to enjoy the blossoms.

One of them is Muryōjuin Temple, located within walking distance from Craft Inn Te. Muryōjuin is a historic temple originally founded in 738 and relocated to its current site in 1601. We highly recommend strolling through the beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms along the temple approach and enjoying the magnificent sakura blooming throughout the temple grounds.

Reservations for this period are filling up quickly, but a few rooms are still available.

【Craft Inn手[té] のつくり手紹介④石田淳さん】

八女の古民家ホテルCraft Inn手[té] は周辺の伝統工芸のつくり手による家具や調度品に彩られています。

竹の部屋の一階にあるのは八女の竹細工の作家である石田淳さんに作っていただいた竹のテーブル。竹編みの美しさをまっすぐに感じでいただきたいという思いで作っていただきました。

筍の生産量が全国1位の八女は竹林が多く、暮らしの中に竹細工が根付いている地域。農業のかたわら、日々の生活で使う道具を竹で作ってきました。石田淳さんはそんな八女の竹文化をは引き継ぐ作り手です。

石田さんは、自ら伐採した竹から余分な油分や水分を抜き、竹を幾度も割いて、皮を剥ぎ、角の面取りをして、「竹ひご」を作り、編んでいきます。

竹細工というと多種多様や編み技法に目が行きがちですが、石田さん曰く「竹ひご」を作るまでがものづくりの大半を占めるそうです。

そんなものづくりの背景も含めて、Craft Inn手[té] で竹の世界を楽しんでください。

【Meet the Makers of Craft Inn Te④ Atsushi Ishida】

Craft Inn Te, our traditional townhouse hotel in Yame, is adorned with furniture and decor handcrafted by local artisans of the region’s traditional crafts.

On the first floor of the Bamboo Room is a bamboo table crafted by Atsushi Ishida, a bamboo artisan from Yame. It was made so that guests can experience the beauty of bamboo weaving in a direct and honest way.

Yame is rich in bamboo groves and is Japan’s leading region for bamboo shoot production, where bamboo craftsmanship has long been part of everyday life. Alongside farming, they have long made everyday tools from bamboo for daily life.
Atsushi Ishida is one of the makers who carries on this bamboo culture.

Using bamboo he harvests himself, Ishida removes excess oil and moisture, splits and refines the bamboo into fine strips, and weaves them by hand. He says that making these bamboo strips is the most important part of the craft.

古民家ホテルCraft Inn 手 [té] では、八女の冬を楽しんでいただくために、はんてんと湯たんぽをご用意しています。

実は、筑後地域ははんてんの一大産地。なんと国内シェア90%以上を占めています。北海道や東北ではなく筑後ではんてん作りが発展したのは不思議な気もしますが、筑後が昔から綿の産地だったため発展したという説や、農閑期の副業としてはんてん作りが盛んになったという説などがあげられています。

Craft Inn 手 [té]のはんてんは、宮田織物さんのもの。「見えないところに手を抜かない」の信念を大切にしている作り手です。

杉の木桶風呂に浸かったあとは、「着る布団」とも言われるはんてんの温もりを感じてください。

[Winter Hospitality at Craft Inn 手 [té]]
At the traditional townhouse hotel Craft Inn 手 [té], we provide hanten jackets and hot-water bottles (yutanpo) so that you can fully enjoy winter in Yame.

Interestingly, the Chikugo region is one of Japan’s major production centers for hanten, accounting for over 90% of the domestic market. It may seem surprising that hanten making flourished in Chikugo rather than in colder regions like Hokkaido or Tohoku. Some say this is because Chikugo has long been a cotton-producing area, while others suggest that hanten production became popular as a side business during the farming off-season.

The hanten at Craft Inn 手 [té] are made by Miyata Orimono, a maker who treasures the belief of “never cutting corners, even in places you can’t see.”

After soaking in our cedar wood barrel bath, we invite you to wrap yourself in the warmth of a hanten, often called a “wearable futon.”
