Aberdare Ranges Central Kenya Muranga County. Location: Central Kenya Muranga County on the slopes of the Aberdares Ranges. Approximately 130 km from Nairobi, 45km from Nyeri, 53km from the Treetops Gate, and 60km from the Ark Gate of The Aberdare National Park. Located on the edge of The North River Mathioya.
The Mathioya River Lodge comprises four self-catering cabins two are ready for occupation.
Each cabin with two bedrooms with one ensuite. Each of the bedrooms has one double or twin single beds with doors leading to the verandah.
•Bathroom: Two bathrooms per cabin one common and one in the ensuite bedroom •Sitting room: Each cabin has a sitting room with a log fire and doors leading to a veranda. •Dining area: Each cabin has an open-plan dining area leading off the sitting room. There are also chairs on the veranda. •Kitchen: Equipped with gas stove, fridge, microwave, kitchen utensils, and cutlery. •Provided: Caretaker, blankets, pillows, bed linen, towels, soap, and toiletry. •The cabin can take a maximum of 6 guests. Area highlights: Spectacular scenery made up of The North Mathioya River, the Aberdare Ranges at her second highest peak( Nyandarua)the surrounding tea plantations, colorful flora, and the warmth of the local community. Activities at Mathioya River Lodge Trout fishing, (fishing license can be obtained at the fisheries department in Muranga Town), walking, trekking, and mountain biking. •Walking: The area surrounding Mathioya River Lodge is perfect for those who love nature and hiking. There are some fantastic trails to follow. The area is full of lovely walks and beautiful spots to have a picnic. • Fishing: River Mathioya is stocked with rainbow and Brown Trout and provides excellent opportunities for fishing. Previous fly-fishing experience is not necessary. Fishing rods and flies can be hired from the lodge. • Bird watching: Mathioya River Lodge’s unique location allows for ample opportunities for birdwatchers, and most mornings scarlet-tufted malachite sunbirds (Nectarinia Johnstoni) and Kingfishers are seen from the verandah. • Mountain Biking: The biking trails are breathtaking. Bikes can be hired from the lodge. Wildlife in the Aberdare National Park about 1 Hr drive: Includes; elephant, sykes and colobus monkey, leopard, black rhino, giant forest hog, bushbuck, buffalo, bush duiker, suni, serval, reedbuck, eland, and rare bongo antelope.
