The adrenaline of Motorsport Season is in full throttle in Kenya, having enjoyed the spectacular World Safari Rally Championship a wilder motorsport event has begun. It is The Rhino Charge 32nd Edition 2021 which started on Saturday 17th July - it is an annual off-road motorsport competition that has been held in Kenya since 1989. The Rhino Charge is a unique and exciting off-road motorsport competition that requires bravery and a high level of skill in off-road driving and navigation.

Senator Gideon Moi of Baringo County flagged off the 44 cars at Sabor, Kimalel is said to be the most brutal and exciting off-road motorsport spectacle in the world.

The charitable and community engagements with Rhino Ark Kenya Foundation will leave resources that will benefit the community.

Mr. Christian Lambrechts, Executive Director, Rhino Ark said the fence on Mt. Kenya was completed where 11 community members were killed by elephants by, building a 53 km fence. Rhino Ark has also deviced automatic gates that open for an elephant and close behind the elephant when it passes.

The Elephants have been passing through the Aberdare Park before Queen Elizabeth then Princess Elizabeth visited Treetops in Nyeri, we can only hope that human interventions such as gate entrances and fences will not injure the elephants especially when they walk at night or during the day incase the elephants walk into them or keep them away from their natural habitats.

The death of 11 people is tragic but, the encroachment of people in the forests of the wild elephants must be addressed and safer solutions can be carried out.

According to Christian Lambrechts, the Executive Director of Rhino Charge, they are involved with continous community engagement to education through environmental and conservation courses being added into the curriculums of the 78 schools they support and supporting communities who have great knowledge of Bee keeping to move from subsistence to commercial Bee keeping. The Rhino Charge organisers are preparing to get started on the Kakamega forest fencing of 117km.

Rhino Charge has always been held somewhere undisclosed in Kenya which creates a great buzz for both the drivers, their teams, sponsors and spectators. The exact location is not announced until a few weeks prior to the event – this is all part of the magic of the Charge!

The Rhino Charge event has raised over Ksh 1.6 billion (USD 160m)

Safaricom selected and supported three young drivers between 17-26 years for FIA Rally Star programme at the recently completed World Rally Championship (WRC) in Kenya which started on June 24th to 27th, 2021 with a KES 17.5 million sponsorship.

"The three young Kenyan drivers we’ll be supporting have the potential to become the next big stars and with the Safari Rally now back on the WRC calendar, they get to showcase their talents on an international stage”, said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom

The three Kenyan drivers who have been selected for the FIA Rally star programme include, Jeremy Wahome and Hamza Anwar who are both aged 22 as well as 26-year old McRae Mutwiri Kimathi.

Hamza Anwar
is a 22-year-old second-generation rally driver. He has been racing in many formats in the motorsport world and is now fully absorbed in the rally world following in his father Asad Anwar and uncle Azar Anwar footsteps.

His most recent participation in motorsports was in the African Rally Championship Equator Rally where he impressively came out in 5th place and became the youngest finisher of the Equator Rally.

Hamza’s eyes are now set on the 2021 WRC Safari Rally and he keeps his inspiration up through his role models who are: his father, Asad Anwar, Ian Duncan, Heather Hayes and Rob Collinge.

McRae Mutwiri Kimathi
is a 26-year-old Kenyan rally driver. He started rallying at the age of 15 when he joined the Abdul Sidi Rally School in 2015.
KImathi’s interest in being a rally driver was sparked at an early age since he hails from a motorsport family with his dad, Phineas Kimathi, having been a Formula 2 champion during his hey-days. His most recent finish was 8th at the 2021 African Rally Championship Equator Rally.

Jeremy Wahome
is 22 Years and started go-karting at the age of 8 in the Rift Valley Motorsports club championship.
At the age of 18, Wahome was taking the necessary steps by competing in the British Formula three Championship – a series won in the past by the likes of Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen, who went on to be crowned Formula One World Champions.
Not content with just pursuing a career in motorsport, Jeremy is also studying at Cheltenham College and recently set up a library in Kibera.

Maxine, Muiruri named in Betika line-up for WRC Safari
Team Betika becomes the first local outfit to unveil its livery for Safari Rally slated for June 24-27 2021.

•Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed and rally legend Patrick Njiru thanked the betting firm for its goodwill gestures

Maxine Wahome and Andrew Wanyoike are the two drivers that Njiru has taken under his wings and happen to both be part of . The two were part of the four drivers who received the Kshs 80 million sponsorship.

Speaking to Capital Sports on Kenya’s premier sports show hosted by James Wokabi on Saturday Music and Sports, Njiru said that he has known Wahome since she was a baby and he has been by Wanyoike side as he did a few Time Trials races.

He has since taken a bigger role as they try to transition from the tarmac racing to Rallying. “Rallying is a science and that is the science I’d like to instill in Andrew (Wanyoike),” Njiru told Capital Sport.

Kenya’s Onkar Rai emerged the winner of the World Rally Championship Category 3.
Top Kenyan driver Onkar Rai has dedicated his maiden WRC3 win on the Safari Rally to his injured brother Tejveer who crashed out on Friday and is continuing receiving treatment. Kedong NAIVASHA, Kenya, Jun 27 – Kenyan drivers Onkar Rai, Karan Patel and Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo scored WRC points after finishing in the top 10 of the Safari Rally was won by Frenchman Sebastian Ogier of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team.

The trio were competing in the WRC3 class -
Onkar finished 7th overall ahead of Patel who was 8th while Tundo, a five-time Safari Rally winner was placed 9th. Rai, navigated by Briton Drew Sturrock, driving a Polo Gti recorded a time of 3:47:37.7 to beat compatriot Karan Patel navigated by Tauseef Khan in a Ford Fiesta who was second fasted in 3:51:41.7 while five-time Safari Rally champion Carl Flash Tundo navigated by Timothy Jessop cruising in a Polo Gti closed the podium in 3:54:52.0.

The local driver set a sizzling pace from the get-go in his Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. After edging out a healthy lead during Friday’s punishing leg, he consolidated his position with a pair of fastest stage times on the penultimate day. Capital FM sports
