Speech delivered at Great Lakes University of Kisumu - Gluk Environmental Club event commemorating World Environment Day 2026 under the theme: "A Call for Climate Action for All."
Good morning everyone,
As we join the world in celebrating World Environment Day, we recognize that protecting our environment is not just a global responsibility but a local one. As a hospitality business, we understand that our operations have an impact on the environment, and we are committed to reducing that impact while contributing positively to our community.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental conservation through several practical initiatives:
๐. ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
We are transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the hotel and promoting responsible use of electricity. We are also exploring greater use of solar energy to reduce our dependence on fossil-fuel-generated power.
๐. ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
Water is one of our most precious resources. We are implementing water-saving measures, including efficient plumbing fixtures, regular maintenance to prevent leaks, and encouraging responsible water use among staff and guests.

We are strengthening waste segregation within the hotel by separating recyclable materials such as plastic, glass, paper, and metal. We aim to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and support local recycling efforts.

We are working towards minimizing single-use plastics by encouraging reusable alternatives and reducing unnecessary plastic packaging in our operations.

We commit to planting and nurturing trees around our property and within our community. Trees help absorb carbon dioxide, improve air quality, provide shade, and support biodiversity.

Where possible, we will prioritize sourcing food and supplies from local farmers and businesses. This reduces transportation-related emissions while supporting local livelihoods.

Environmental conservation is most effective when everyone participates. We will continue educating our staff and encouraging our guests to adopt environmentally responsible practices during their stay.

We are taking steps to minimize food waste through better planning, proper storage, and responsible portion management. Any surplus food that can safely be utilized will be managed responsibly.

We will participate in community clean-up activities and partner with environmental organizations and schools to promote environmental stewardship in Kisumu.

Our goal is to progressively reduce our carbon footprint by embracing renewable energy, improving operational efficiency, planting trees, and continuously measuring our environmental impact.
Today, we recognize that every small action matters. Together, as a hotel, our guests, our staff, and our community, we can build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Kisumu and for generations to come.
