A Heartfelt Thank You and a New Chapter for Richard’s River Camp
So much of what Richard’s River Camp has become is thanks to the people who believed in it from the very beginning. As I think back on the incredible journey of River Camp, from its early beginnings to its place today as a leading tourism partner of the Mara North Conservancy, I am filled with deep gratitude for your unwavering support over the years. I would like to take this opportunity to share some personal news: I have made the decision to step back from this much-loved enterprise, and will be entrusting its future to the capable hands of Hemingways Hospitality.
I am deeply proud of everything Richard and I built together through passion, perseverance, and a shared belief in conservation and community. As a mother to Willow and Ivy, and with other growing commitments, I feel confident this is the right moment and Hemingways are the right people to carry the camp forward. Hemingways is a Kenyan-owned company that shares our core values of sustainability, conservation, and authentic experiences. I truly believe they will honour the legacy of Richard’s River Camp while nurturing its continued growth.
Importantly, the heart and soul of camp life will remain unchanged. You’ll still see the same familiar faces and experience the same warmth and welcome from the team that many of you have come to know as family over the years.
To my incredible team, many of whom have been with us since day one — Thank You. We’ve shared stories, adventures, challenges, and countless unforgettable moments. I couldn’t have made it through the last six years without your dedication, loyalty, and friendship. You are the backbone of this very special place, and I am endlessly grateful.
While this is maybe the end of one chapter, it’s also the continuation of others. I will remain active in the conservation and travel world. Forest Camp, our roots and home where it all began, located in the beautiful Ol Choro Conservancy in the Masai Mara has some exciting developments on the horizon. Roberts Safaris will continue to explore and connect our guests to the extraordinary places and people of this continent as we have done since 1978. Elizabeth Fusco Designs will continue to celebrate Africa’s rich creativity and spirit through design.
Willow, 19 and Ivy, 14 are growing fast. Before long, I hope you’ll see a third generation of Roberts in the Mara, helping to protect and share the beauty of this land, just as their father Richard and grandfather Willie did before them.
Thank you again for your continued support and I look forward to sharing this next chapter with you.
With Love,
xx Liz
