Camera traps, clever technology and a very dedicated team, all working together for one remarkable species 🦏
Through our Footprint Trust and Sala's Camp, we are supporting the future of endangered black rhinos in the Masai Mara, home to one of only two remaining indigenous, unfenced black rhino populations in Kenya.
So far, we have helped to ear-notch 23 black rhinos in the Mara, enabling rangers to identify individuals more easily. We have also provided essential equipment and uniforms for the Mara rhino ranger unit.
The latest step? A growing network of camera traps, helping rangers identify and monitor individual rhinos to better protect this precious population. Because sometimes, looking after the wild takes sharp eyes, smart tools and a whole lot of heart.
