Have you ever seen an antelope stand on two legs? 🦌🌿

Meet the gerenuk, one of the most fascinating animals you can discover on safari in Samburu.

Also known as the giraffe gazelle, the gerenuk is easy to recognise by its long neck, slender legs and large ears. But its real party trick? It can stand upright on its hind legs to reach fresh leaves and shoots that other antelopes cannot reach!

Even more amazing, gerenuks can survive for long periods without directly drinking water, getting much of the moisture they need from the plants & flowers they eat.

The name gerenuk comes from the Somali language and means “giraffe-necked”.
