The Emakoko is a family owned and run lodge on the border of Nairobi National Park. A perfectly placed bush lodge on the edge of the capital city, away from the crowds and perfectly secluded on the Mbagathi River gorge. The Emakoko is a perfect beginning or end to any East African Safari, rather than lose a day in a city - you gain a day on safari!

The soundtrack of the wild isn’t always a roar.

Sometimes it’s the rustle of leaves as a giraffe passes by, the call of a bird overhead, the stillness of a crocodile basking in the sun, or the quiet presence of a rhino grazing nearby.

At Emakoko, every game drive is a reminder that nature’s greatest moments are often its gentlest ones. ✨

A gentle knock on the door.

Fresh coffee in hand.

The sounds of the African bush drifting through the window.

If mornings looked like this every day, we’d definitely be morning people. ā˜•ļøāœØ

If you’re wondering whether you’ll ’eat well’ on safari…best you start scrolling and stop wondering šŸ¤”

Here, mealtime is never just about the food (well, it is, but you know what we mean). It’s about the crackle of a fire nearby as the evening unfolds under a star-filled sky. It’s a slow cocktail sipped with your feet dangling in the pool. It’s long, unhurried lunches under the warm African sun, with nothing but birdsong and rustling leaves in the background.

This is the essence of dining - unhurried, unexpected, and unforgettable āœØšŸ•Æļø

To the mums who pack the snacks, calm the chaos, remember everyone’s passports, and somehow still spot the lion first… this one’s for you. 🌿

At The Emakoko, we’ve watched mothers do extraordinary things:

Carry sleeping children from the car after sundowners.

Smile politely while someone says ā€œjust one more photoā€ for the 47th time.

Have sleepy children curled up on their laps during game drives.

And quietly create the moments their families will remember forever.

This Mother’s Day, we’re raising a glass (probably while someone asks where their shoes are) to the women who make adventure feel like home.

Here’s to the mothers who hold families together - even on safari, where absolutely nobody can find anything.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at The Emakoko

Living on the edge… with love. ā¤ļø

If you’ve ever had the privilege of hearing a lion roar in the wild, you’ll know it’s not just a sound - it’s something you feel vibrating through your whole body 🦁

A deep, rolling reminder that out here, you’re very much a guest!

Muddle, mix, sip… and suddenly Monday feels less like a crisis and more like a suggestion šŸø

And because we’re good Samaritans, we thought that we would share the recipe for our famous Dawa cocktail with you.

A little honey to sweeten the week ahead, ginger for resilience, chilli for just the right amount of chaos - and suddenly things feel far more manageable.

They call it a Dawa, which means ā€œmedicineā€ in Swahili, and honestly, who are we to question centuries of wisdom?

Best served overlooking the bush, but a kitchen counter will do in the meantime.

A safari doesn’t have to start with another flight.

The assumption is that the wild begins somewhere far away, but at the Emakoko, it starts just outside the city.

With a seamless 45 minute airport transfer, game drives in Nairobi National Park, to all meals, drinks, and the kind of access few places can offer - this is more than just a room for a night.

No wasted flights.
No wasted hours.
No complicated logistics.

Just a seamless start to the wild šŸ¦’

Evenings at The Emakoko are for slowing down.

A short walk under the stars, dinner set quietly in the garden, and the sounds of the bush settling in for the night. There’s no way that we would rather have it.

Precision in motion šŸ’„ The black-shouldered kite is known for its ability to hover almost motionless while scanning the ground for prey. Once it locks on, it drops quickly and accurately, often targeting small rodents.

This hunting style makes its one of the most efficient raptors in open grassland habitats šŸ¦…
