Secluded Africa owns and manages exclusive and barefoot luxury lodges in Kenya. These include Delta Dunes (Tana Delta), Kipalo Hills (Tsavo West), Sunbird Lodge (Lake Elementaita), Instinct of the Mara (Maasai Mara) and Cardamom House (Kiruwitu Beach Vipingo) - set to open for Easter 2021. Our core pillars are focused on Wildlife and Nature Conservation, Culture and Communities, run entirely by lo

cals. Conservation - All our properties are located within private conservancies which means exclusive experiences all the way. We deeply encourage our guests to engage in our conservation work, anti-poaching and community efforts so that they understand the difference between a conservancy and national park, what conservation means, where their conservation fees go, the reality on the ground and hopefully leave as family and true advocates of wildlife and nature conservation. Culture - Cultural education and exposure is important to us. Kenya is a colourful country with 43 tribes, yet only a few are well known. Thanks to the location of our lodges, our guests are able to engage with at least 4 tribes – Pokomo, Orma, Taita and Masai tribes. Community - Communities are part of every conservancy and lodge. They are shareholders, managers, waiters, rangers and part of every cog in the wheel that it takes to run a lodge and conservancy. Our staff have been trained and their children are being put through school as part of being a Secluded Africa team and family member. We can guarantee that you will come in as a guest but leave as a friend after experiencing the magic of Secluded Africa – 5 star experiences at the price of a 3 star.

One country....and home to all of this.🇰🇪❤️

From the plains of the Maasai Mara to the wilderness of Tsavo and the shores of the Kenyan coast, every landscape feels completely different from the next.

Each place has its own landscapes, wildlife, traditions, stories and people and that diversity is something we never take for granted.

This Madaraka Day, we’re celebrating the extraordinary places, wildlife, cultures and communities that make Kenya so special and reminding ourselves how important it is to continue caring for them, supporting them and helping protect them for generations to come.

Happy Madaraka Day from all of us at Secluded Africa Lodges & Camps.🙏🏼

The best part of any guest book? Reading notes like this.❤️

A huge thank you to Lucy, Jak and Ellie for choosing to stay with us and for leaving such a lovely message before heading home.

We’re so happy you enjoyed your time in the Mara and that you left with unforgettable wildlife sightings, plenty of photos and videos, and memories to last a lifetime.

We’ll make sure Fred and Marko also see your kind words.

Thank you again for being part of the Instinct of the Mara family for a few days. We loved having you here and can’t wait to welcome you back again one day.🫶🏻

“A wonderful stay in nature.”

We couldn’t ask for a better sign-off than that.☺️❤️

Bougainvillea everywhere.🌺✨

Bright pinks, soft whites, oranges, all climbing through our gardens and wrapping their way around our pool.

We love the way they bring pops of colour into the space here and make everything feel even more warm, and tropical.

We’ll even place ittle cuttings and arrangements of them in our rooms and common areas around the House, and also while serving our guests because honestly…we can never resist bringing more of them indoors.🫶🏻

Even though bougainvillea originally come from South America, they look completely at home on the Kenyan coast now and we honestly can’t imagine Cardamom House without it.❤️

It’s a wonderful reminder that nature often ends up becoming part of the design and architecture without even trying.

And between it all…views across Tsavo, time around the waterhole and space to simply breathe again.

If this sounds like something your mind and body have been asking for, we’d love to welcome you.✨🫶🏻

This little rain pool has become quite the social spot at Kipalo Hills.

Almost every time the rains come through, the vulturine guinea fowls know exactly where to gather and it’s always a spectacle.

They’re part of Kenya’s “Special Five”…a group that includes some of the country’s most unique and sought after smaller species.

And they always stand out with their electric blue feathers

It’s a perfect scene that unfolds fairly regularly at Kipalo Hills.

These birds paired with the view of the landscape and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance…is incredibly special.

We’d love to welcome you to Kipalo Hills so that you get to experience moments like this for yourself.🫶🏻☺️

After four very full days at Africa’s Travel Indaba in Durban, one thing really stood out to us…

Nobody talks about Africa casually when they truly know it.

Every conversation somehow becomes personal.

People start talking about a sighting they still think about years later…a guide they’ll never forget…or the feeling of being somewhere secluded.

Hearring people speak so passionately about this continent and getting the chance to share a little piece of what makes the Secluded Africa properties so special were some of our favourite moments.

spent the week connecting with both familiar and new faces across the industry that genuinely care about thoughtful, meaningful travel experiences within Africa.

A big thank you to everyone who spent time with us over the four days. We’re very grateful for the connections, conversations and shared excitement for African travel.

And we hope to welcome more of you to our properties in the near future.🫶🏻

This Rufous-bellied Heron was spotted behind our Instinct of the Mara camp earlier today by one of our amazing guides and avid birder .henry… on World Migratory Bird Day of all days.😁

And we must say the timing was pretty special.

These herons move between parts of Central and Eastern Africa and are usually found around still, swampy areas and river edges like those along the Sand River.

They’re definitely not the easiest to find but somehow one ended up in our backyard and that’s what made this sighting even more memorable today.

Some sightings just seem to arrive on the right day.🫶🏻

Happy World Migratory Bird Day from all of us to all of you.❤️

She’s usually one of the first people up each morning…making sure everything is ready long before our guests open their eyes.

Fresh flowers arranged…rooms prepared….breakfast spaces set…little details checked over and over again.

And somehow, she still does it all with the warmest smile.☺️

Christin has been such an important part of Cardamom House for years now and so much of the feeling people leave with after staying here comes from the care she puts into what she does every single day.

We honestly couldn’t imagine the house without her.🤍

Leopards are one of those animals you never forget once you’ve seen them.

Not only because of how beautiful they are…but also because of what they represent.

They are stealthy, shy and elusive…and yet they play such a big role in keeping everything in balance.

From managing prey populations to shaping how other species move and behave, they’re part of a much bigger system…even when you don’t see them.

And that’s what makes sightings like these feel so special.

You’re not just looking at a leopard…you’re looking at a hard-to-find piece of the ecosystem that keeps it all going.

Happy International Leopard Day from all of us at Secluded Africa Lodges & Camps.❤️🐾
