The saddle-billed stork — East Africa’s tallest stork, standing up to 1.5m with a wingspan close to 2.7m. That scarlet-and-black bill with the golden “saddle” is unmistakable, and watching one strike at the shallows, mirror-perfect in still water, is a moment birders travel a long way for.
