Baboons are not usually the most lovable of creatures, especially if your first contact with them is through their menacing screeches on a bush hike. Or if you’ve left the window to a bathroom open and upon returning, find it completely ransacked.
But baboons do have a more engaging side to them. To discover it, visit the world’s only habituated baboon colony, just near Ol Lentille, and spend some time mingling with them, understanding their social dynamics, their behaviour and their games. That group of baboons has been studied by researchers for 52 years, and spending an hour with them provides a fascinating glimpse into a highly intelligent and social animal.
