Samburu women during a rain dance near Ol Lentille. In this case, the women were giving thanks for the unseasonal rains which broke a long spell of drought. Chanting and praying in a dry river bed and stopping at every fig tree, to douse it with milk, as a way of giving thanks.

More on our painted dogs. After losing their morning hunt to a pack of hyenas, they caught an impala later in the day. When we came across them they were finishing off the last bits of it.

Thrilling adventure yesterday! We knew a leopard had made its territory close to the lodge because we kept finding its kills. So we decided to try and track it on foot. After an hour following its tracks, it suddenly appeared about 30 meters away from us. Just long enough for a quick glimpse, before disappearing into bush.

A visit to a local market is always fascinating. It’s a kaleidoscope of the tribes of northern Kenya: Samburu, Maasai, Turkana, Borana. Real, raw, authentic. No trinkets for tourists to bring home. Unless they want a cow or a goat!

From Singapore to Kenya via Montreal and Lagos! Our good friends Franca and Chizzy got the full Ol Lentille experience last week: lots of wildlife, a good dose of authentic Maasai and Samburu culture, and a few quiet romantic moments in the spectacular Ol Lentille conservancy.
