Did you know that Kenya is home to 9 of Africa’s 11 vulture species, many of which are critically endangered?

Vultures play a crucial role in role in ecosystems by cleaning up carcasses quickly - preventing diseases and parasites that could transmit to other animals including livestock and humans, recycling nutrients through their droppings, and more.

Vultures are incredible! Saving them helps protect biodiversity and supports healthy ecosystems for us all ❤️

Most come for the big five and leave with a new found love of our feathered friends 🦅

Hyenas, and especially hyena pups, are curious, fun, social creatures and we just love spending time with them in the bush. They’ll often venture out of their den to sniff our tyres, eye up our guests or test their teeth on the vehicle 🤪

No matter what nonsense they’re upto though, we love them. How could you not with a face like that 🥰

Ol Pejeta is home to the Big Five including 171 black rhinos, the last two Northern White Rhinos left on our planet, reticulated giraffe, hippos, cheetahs and over 300 species of birds.

This kind of biodiversity doesn’t happen by accident these days; it persists because people care about its protection and are actively working to defend it. Today we’re celebrating the biodiversity that makes our home in the bush so incredible and the rangers, conservationists, biologists, veterinarians that keep it that way ❤️

A family on safari? We’re all about it 🙌🏻 Here are a few reasons families love going on safari with us…

1. With a private vehicle and guide + personal chef and your own accommodation you can set your own schedule - the days run in accordance to your kids naps and energy levels, food is catered to little one’s taste buds and at times that suit the whole family and you don’t need to worry about disturbing the peace because your accommodation is entirely private.

2. Value for Money - if you’re thinking all this exclusively comes with a premium price tag think again. A private guide and personal chef is included in our fully inclusive rate as standard. Prices start at $465. Children under 12 are half price and under 3 are free.

3. Spacious and safe - the property has an unobtrusive electric fence so you can wander safely during the day. Due to our altitude we’re also malaria free!

4. The kids get stuck in - if it sounds a little quiet it’s probably because the kids are in the kitchen with the chef, looking at footprints in the driveway with the askari or helping Dom pick carrots in the garden.

There aren’t many feelings better than that split second when a wild animal locks eyes with you. When you know she has seen you and has accepted you in her space 🙌🏻

"The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the earth."

Happy 100th Birthday to the man who changed the way the world looks at wildlife

When we came to Ol Pejeta so many years ago, we didn't just become safari operators, we became neighbours. That means every week we're in Nanyuki (our nearest town) picking up supplies, taking our team to appointments, maintaining vehicles. And somewhere along the way, we fell in love with a place called Spinners & Weavers.

Founded in the 1970s by the Nanyuki Presbyterian Church, S&W is a sanctuary for widowed and disadvantaged women. Over 280 women have learned skills here, earned income, supported their families, and many have gone on to start their own businesses across Kenya. Today, the women create beautiful hand-woven textiles using traditional methods. Every rug tells a story and every purchase changes a life.

If you're staying a little longer with us, we'd strongly recommend a morning in Nanyuki visiting S&W. You can also do this on the way in or the way out (time allowing). You'll meet incredible women, support our community and have a beautiful new, handwoven rug for your home.
