Vultures hold one the most vital ecological roles in the wilderness; they strip down carcasses, ridding them of bacteria and disease and return the nutrients back to the soil. Without vultures, the circle of life simply doesn’t circle ⭕️

Of all Africa’s vulture species, the majority are now classified as endangered or critically endangered. Seeing them with the frequency that we do on Ol Pejeta is not something we take for granted 🙏🏻

Today is National Wildlife Day. Established in memory of Steve Irwin, a man who understood better than almost anyone that the way to protect wild animals was to make people fall in love with them first 🐘

We think about that a lot.

Every guest who leaves Ol Pejeta having sat with Najin and Fatu, having watched baby elephants learn to use their trunks, having heard a lion at three in the morning from their bed leaves changed. They go home and they talk about it and they make different choices.

Like Mr Irwin, we too believe that conservation doesn't start with policy or funding. It starts more simply than this, with a moment in the field that rewires something in you permanently and inspires you to be a part of the change.

We're welcoming September on Ol Pejeta with wide open arms 🧡

The dry season has done its work — the grass is short, the plains are open, and the predators are moving with the kind of confidence that comes from months of good hunting.

Six lion prides cover this conservancy. The cheetahs wander open grassland and the leopard your guide has been tracking is spending more time in the river line as the shade becomes harder to find.

This is the month that people mean when they say 'Kenya in peak season.' If you're here for September, you already know. If you're not — this is your reminder to get your October dates sorted.

We were heartbroken to learn of Baraka’s passing. He was much loved by all our guests, most especially the young ones and will be greatly missed.

Our condolences to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya rangers who cared for him so diligently and with such kindness ❤️
