Captured by world-class filmmakers Sam Newton and Chris Balladarez at Ishara, 'The Lioness' is a cinematic tribute to empowerment and belonging. The film explores the journey of finding one’s voice in the wild, rooted in the spirit of the lioness who commands her domain with a fierce, wordless authority.

After months of planning and dreaming, Josh & Alannah’s Ishara honeymoon became the real thing—first light rolling across the Mara, the plains lush and verdant after the rains, and close-up encounters that brought those hold-your-breath moments a safari is made of. But what made it truly specal was the calm, the connection, and the way time seemed to slow down.

They arrived full of anticipation and left with something even richer: stories they’ll tell for years, and memories that feel like they belong to them alone.

The Mara plays out in full colour — tenderness and brutality in the same frame. Dawn brings new life; dusk closes other stories. The strong fall, the small endure, and the balance keeps moving. We don’t come to rewrite it. We come to witness it — quietly, honestly — and leave with a deeper respect for every breath.

Oliver Solberg, one of rally’s most electrifying talents to emerge in recent years, arrived at Ishara with his fiancée, Chloe, for their first-ever safari while in Kenya for the WRC Safari Rally. Curious, open, and ready to take it all in, their days unfolded with thrilling game viewing and that rare kind of presence the wild brings out. In between, there was time spent with the Maasai, cheerful conversations, and evenings shaped by sundowners and beautiful dining experiences.

A true highlight was Oliver sharing driving tips and tricks in the muddy terrain with our own team — hands-on, light-hearted, and great fun. His warmth, humour, and easy charm won our hearts, and we can’t wait to welcome them back again.

A zebra foal was left alone after its mother died. When we returned a few hours later, we were devastated to find the mother had been eaten. The herd had already moved on, but the foal, dazed and searching, kept circling what was left.

It wandered on reluctantly, trying to find companionship with elephants, but the bigger animals towered over it, intimidated it, and chased it away. This small life, suddenly on its own, faced an uncertain path with no mother to follow, no safety to run to. All we could do was watch — helpless, hearts in pieces.

We came across Neema on the move recently, reading the plains with every step. In the grass, a newborn Thomson’s gazelle lay hidden—an easy meal, if luck held. She ate quickly, but the air carried the scent. A hyena followed the trail and, in the end, claimed what remained.

We recently hosted a Canon photography training for staff members eager to sharpen their skills and confidence with a camera. Led by Fred Ochieng, an accredited Canon trainer, and Joseph Njenga, one of our resident professionals, the session focused on practical techniques, creative choices, and how to tell stories through images. It was a natural fit for our photo studio, a rare space in the Mara that champions visual storytelling, supports emerging talent, and offers guests complimentary Canon gear, guidance in the field, and fun photoshoots, so they can take home something truly personal.

An altercation between a bull elephant and a handful of Rongai cubs made for a very entertaining few minutes. The cubs, full of confidence and looking for a game, edged in a little too close—testing boundaries the way youngsters do.

The bull had no interest in play. With a sharp turn, a warning rumble and a brisk charge, he sent them scattering in every direction, all bravado replaced by sudden, urgent retreat.

Out here, the mood can change in a heartbeat—never a dull moment.
