As the African sun climbs higher, this lioness takes a slow, purposeful walk in search of shade. During the hottest hours of the day, lions conserve energy by resting under trees and bushes, where temperatures are cooler and the risk of overheating is reduced.
Lionesses are the backbone of the prideβskilled hunters, protective mothers, and highly social animals. Even while appearing relaxed, they remain alert to their surroundings, always aware of potential prey, rivals, or threats.
