Easy access to Ngare Ndare Forest and the Crystal Pools. Enjoy guided walks amongst lions and elephant. Our farm, Loltunda, is set on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, bordering the Borana Conservancy. It comprises 500 acres of freehold land and another 2000 acres of forest trust land. We have developed this over time by buying and piecing together plots and positioning guards on the land alongs
ide our neighbors to stop charcoal burning. We have fenced in and watched the land regenerate and the wildlife return, and we have developed sand dams to prevent erosion in the valleys that hold water. On this land, which consists of hills sloping toward the Borana plains and valleys of heavily forested land, we have kept a section of higher ground to build our house and permaculture farm. The contours of the land have been carved into long ditches and swales to stop water runoff. We have also collected many grass seeds and planted nitrogen-fixing bushes to enrich the soil. We have planted fruit trees, dug dams to hold water, brought in birds, placed new hives for home bees, and collected wild honey. Our farm also has a herd of milking goats, chickens, and rabbits. We have three wagons on wheels connected by a living deck, which we have called home since 2014. It consists of a double, a twin wagon, a kitchen with a store in the container, a fridge and freezer space, and an outside bathroom off to the side. The living deck has a massive fireplace, a large dining table with sofa seats and comfortable chairs, and another table outside the kitchen for serving food. Lanterns provide light after dark, alongside solar power, and the flicker of a well-stocked wooden fire. We have Wi-Fi here, so if you bring your speaker and computer, you can connect with music and the world beyond. Read more at www.thewilderliving.com
