Pesto is a handmade sauce made with fresh basil leaves crushed by hand, pine nuts (we use cashew nuts 😋), grated cheese, olive oil, garlic, and a pinch of salt.

It’s a classic from Liguria, a seaside region in northern Italy — home to the magical Cinque Terre 🌊⛰️ (do you know it?)

At Casa Hera, Italian flavors meet the western Kenya lakeside and — why not — the spices of the Swahili coast 🌍✨

Room Apaka has had its challenges in the past — a window that didn’t give enough privacy, limited ventilation, and a tight space! 😟😰

We listened. In June 2025, we renovated it: we closed the old window, opened a new one, enlarged the room (now a comfy triple!), and added thoughtful touches. 😍

Today, it’s ensuite, quiet, fresh, with its own small table for private work — one of our absolute favorite rooms! ✨

Right next to Casa Hera lies Kaya Diani, one of the sacred forests along the Kenyan coast. 🌳🐒

Untamed and deeply spiritual, this Kaya is used by the local Digo, a Mijikenda community, for powerful ancestral rituals.
It’s vast, wild, and sadly still at risk of land grabbing and misuse.

Home to majestic, ancient baobab trees, dik-diks, mongooses, genets, and monkeys of all kinds, this forest is a living sanctuary.

If you ever enter a Kaya, remember: take nothing, leave nothing — not even leaves or wood.
Only respect.

Let’s keep praying (and acting) so places like this are protected forever 🙏🏽🌳

Today right before check-out, two lovely guests from the Netherlands surprised our family with a small gift to show their appreciation for our hospitality ☀️

Moments like these are truly precious to us — they remind us why we love opening the doors of our home to guests from around the world.

Christmas Gift! 🎁🌴☀️

At Casa Hera we gifted all our incoming guests with a freshly renovated swimming area! ♥️

New sun beds and mattresses, new shower and a nice waterfall to keep the sounds natural! We have also installed a nice sound system, so Casa Hera’s music now plays everywhere! 😎
