Banteay Kdei Temple: A Center of Learning and Spiritual Heritage
Built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, Banteay Kdei was more than a Buddhist temple—it was a monastic center where monks and scholars studied religion, philosophy, and knowledge during the Angkor period.
Located opposite Srah Srang and south of Ta Prohm, the temple showcases the elegant Bayon style, featuring four-faced entrance towers, peaceful courtyards, and the renowned Hall of Dancers adorned with finely carved Yogini figures symbolizing spiritual devotion.
Surrounded by ancient trees and tranquil ruins, Banteay Kdei offers a quieter experience than many of Angkor's larger temples, making it an ideal place to appreciate Khmer architecture, history, and the legacy of one of the world's greatest civilizations.
More than an archaeological monument, Banteay Kdei stands as a lasting symbol of the Khmer Empire's achievements in education, culture, and spirituality.
