ild better futures throughout Southeast Asia and beyond. Song Saa’s first venture, the award-winning Song Saa Private Island, pioneered conservation-based luxury tourism in Cambodia’s Koh Rong Archipelago, working with surrounding villages, the Cambodian government and the private sector to improve local livelihoods. The Song Saa Foundation was borne out of the founders' desire to retain the values of the Koh Rong Archipelago's people and their environment even further. It is dedicated to the protection of marine life, social and economic development, and conservation of mangrove and the rainforest with a vision focussed on protecting the region for future generations. Link with us to be a part of our journey as we continue to grow our brand as a leader of sustainable development in the private sector.

We are honoured to be featured in Newsweek, discussing how regenerative tourism is redefining luxury through authenticity, emotion, and deep connection to people and place.

Reflecting on our roots, founder Melita Koulmandas shares how our journey began with two tiny islands, a struggling reef, and a belief that tourism should give back more than it takes. From an experimental no-take zone grew Cambodia’s first protected marine park—now spanning 524 km², where marine life and hornbills returned within eighteen months.

As Melita notes, “Luxury has evolved. It’s no longer about gold taps or marble; it’s about authenticity, emotion, and connection with people and place.”

This milestone belongs entirely to our community: our dedicated team, our neighbouring villages, and every guest who has walked this path with us.

Wake high in the lush canopy of Koh Ouen, where the rainforest presses close and morning light drifts in on birdsong. Step out onto your private deck, where your infinity pool spills towards the shimmering sea and a round daybed invites you to linger through slow, sun-drenched afternoons with the green-and-gold archipelago stretched out before you.

The living room opens wide to the terrace, timber underfoot and daylight pouring through glass doors that fold the outdoors in. With a kitchen and stone-clad bar, it is a sanctuary crafted for mornings that start whenever you please and evenings in no rush to end.

This is our Jungle Villa—total privacy and effortless comfort wrapped in the heart of the rainforest, where true luxury simply means living hand-in-hand with nature.

There is a moment at Vista when the day has not quite ended, yet the evening has already begun to unfold.

As the last golden light lingers softly over the horizon, candles are lit one by one, wrapping the restaurant in a warm, inviting glow. A cocktail arrives, then the first delicate plates, while the gentle rhythm of the sea below beats time to your quiet conversation.

This is dining designed to be savoured slowly—where the night stretches out endlessly into the tropical dusk.

At Vista, dinner begins long before your first bite; it begins with the shifting light, the sweeping views, and the absolute certainty that the night is entirely yours. 🥂

Amok trey is Cambodia’s most beloved dish: a slow-steamed fish curry cradled in a banana leaf, fragrant with lemongrass, kaffir lime, and fresh coconut milk. It is a masterpiece born from a clay pot, a careful hand, and kroeung—a vibrant paste that captures centuries of Khmer culinary heritage in every spoonful.

Our chef has been preparing it by hand since long before this kitchen existed. Every morning, the galangal goes into the mortar first, then the lemongrass, then the rest, in the same order, at the same hour. Some things, he says, simply do not improve with shortcuts—and with one taste of his amok, you know he is right.

Healthy reefs don’t happen by chance; they are built through science, collaboration, and long-term stewardship.

At the Song Saa Foundation, our ongoing reef monitoring provides vital insights into the marine biodiversity that sustains our oceans—and the communities that call them home.

Protecting life below water is a shared responsibility, and one we carry with us every day.

Beneath the surface, a silent transformation is taking place.

Long before this island became a sanctuary for our guests, our marine biologists have been here, tending to our coral gardens. Every fragment is placed with intention, every growth is carefully monitored, and every bit of progress is a testament to the reef's resilience.

When you stay with us, you become a guardian of this work. Your visit directly supports the hands that nurture this delicate ecosystem. Every season the reef remains vibrant and thriving is a hard-won success, and it’s a privilege to share that journey with you.

Together, we’re protecting the future of our oceans, one coral at a time.

When the sun goes down, the island sets a different kind of table.

Lanterns catch the warm evening air, the sea fades into a rhythmic soundscape, and the meal in front of you tastes like nowhere else on earth—partly because of the magic that surrounds it.

At Song Saa, dinner isn’t just about what’s on the plate; it’s about where you are when you eat it.

Learning at Song Saa starts where the land meets the sea. Whether it’s reading the tide, finding balance on a board, or exploring the hidden corners of the archipelago, our little guests are doing more than just playing—they are connecting.

We encourage the next generation to explore slowly and live with curiosity. Because the best lessons aren't found in books; they are found in the waves.
