5 a.m. Korean BBQ with friends, then the walk home at −25°C (okay… it felt like it) 🥩❄️

Raphaël came from Toulouse for a bachelor exchange, August to Christmas 2023, sharing a house in central Seoul with two French classmates 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

What he loved: the food (of course), the nightlife and hiking right in the city, and a subway that’s always clean and on time.
What was hard: paperwork (sorted ✓) and the fact that not everyone speaks English. His little bit of Korean and a lot of laughing with the shop aunties turned into the coolest part of the trip 😄
Favourite food: 야채튀김, fried veggies from the little shops around the neighbourhood 🥬

Korea made him comfortable with the unknown. Now it’s a master’s in international business, then Mauritius, then Chile. Bring it on 🌍

Real Voices #02 — Severine 🇫🇷 → 🇰🇷

14 months in Seoul. Homemade crêpes down the stairs, homemade kimchi back up. That’s how she and her landlords became real friends 🥞🥬 Hiking club, drawing club, a real art exhibition… and every morning, a shy little stray named Simone watching her eat breakfast. 🥐🐈

Simone is still the star of the house ⭐ She left with more than memories. Thank you for letting us tell your story, Séverine Niot

Midnight in Seoul. Upstairs, Bohan is hungry. Again. 🍗

Bohan came from France for a semester at Myongji University, and lived on the second floor of a little house in the middle of Seoul, right above a chicken restaurant.

What he loved: 24h convenience stores, Korean fashion, and eating with friends all over Sinchon.
What was hard: the language barrier, missing home, and alien card paperwork (one small mistake = start again 😅).
Favourite food: cheese dak-galbi 🧀

Now he’s doing his master’s in Paris, and looking for an internship in Korea. See you soon, Bohan 🇰🇷

Accepted to Seoul. …now where do you live? 🏠

Camille did everything right — the grades, the application, the year of waiting. Then the housing questions hit: key money, ₩10M deposits, listings in a language she couldn’t read yet.

It shouldn’t be the hardest part of moving to Seoul.

SharedHomies = furnished rooms in Seoul, a bilingual lease (English + 한국어), and no key money — just one month’s deposit. All sorted before you board the plane.

Getting in was the hard part. Finding home can be the easy part. ✈️

If you want the shortest route from a Seoul lecture hall to a Samsung badge, this is it.

Sungkyunkwan (성균관대학교) was founded in 1398. Six hundred years old, the oldest university in Korea — and it runs one of the most modern deals in Korean higher education.

In 2006 it launched Semiconductor Systems Engineering jointly with Samsung Electronics. Samsung funds the tuition. Students who clear the company’s recruitment process in their second year are effectively hired on graduation. Over two decades the programme has produced more than 1,000 graduates, most of whom went into Samsung’s chip division.

For a long time it was the only programme of its kind in the country. Semiconductor tracks are now so competitive in Korea that they have started pulling applicants away from medical school.

Worth knowing if you are picking a Seoul university and care where the degree actually lands you.

Nobody tells you what winter actually costs until the January bill lands.

So we pulled our own records across 14 houses, November 2025 to March 2026. Gas averaged ₩57,000–₩180,000 per house per month. The worst single bill was ₩299,770. Across the portfolio, winter gas ran 6.8 times the summer level.

The reason is ondol (온돌) — gas-heated water circulating under your floor. The same boiler heats your shower, which is why heating and hot water are one line on a Korean utility bill.

If you are budgeting a Seoul winter, budget for this. If a place will not tell you what their bills ran last January, that is an answer too.
