📣WE ARE BACK IN THE AIR! 📣

👮‍♂️We’ve been inspected today by the Civil Aviation who issued our authorisation to resume flights, starting tomorrow morning.

🎈To provide some context, aerial activities in Vang Vieng, such as ballooning and paramotoring, have experienced exponential growth in recent years, resulting in the creation of many new companies, some of which operate under questionable safety conditions, leading to numerous incidents and accidents in recent years.

🎈This is particularly frustrating for us at Above Laos, who have been involved in the creation of aeronautical regulations from the outset and have always worked closely with the Lao Civil Aviation Authority to improve safety standards for hot air balloon flights in Laos. We have always strictly applied the regulations and safety standards as we would back in France.

🎈Nevertheless, we were all affected by this order and were therefore all grounded until the army along the civil aviation can come and verify that ballooning and paramotoring companies are compliant with the existing regulations.

🎈The price war between the different companies flying over the town has been totally out of control over the last months, putting too much pressure on the companies to fill their baskets and fly at any cost.
Passengers sometimes don’t realise that they are going to take off in a rattan basket with 200 kg of gas, in an aircraft that can’t be steered. At the very least, you need to know who your pilot is, how your aircraft was built and who has maintained your gas burner. At 70 USD, it is simply not possible to do this properly.

🎈VangVieng is a great place to fly, with exceptional weather conditions and great landscapes. We truly believe that more balloon companies mean more passengers, and that the sky is big enough for all of us. But it has to be done the right way, and not at the expense of safety.

🎈When you buy a ticket at Above Laos, the price means that:
- The balloons you fly in are EASA certified aircrafts
- Maintained by a qualified personnel, minimum every 100-hour of flight, with traceability and certified spare parts
- We can afford to renew them regularly as a balloon envelope lifespan is about 700 flight hours
- We have insurance
- Our pilots have a valid license and are reassessed yearly
- We have more pilots than balloons, meaning they have scheduled days off to rest and keep their focus and fitness to fly. Same goes for ground personnel.
- Every flight is prepared, no overloading, no cutting corners to add 1/2 extra passengers. Safe, and comfortable for passengers.
- We don’t feel the pressure to fly at all costs, and can cancel if we are not 100% comfortable with the weather conditions
- Every member of the team at Above Laos is permanently employed, trained, experienced and professional (and awesome)
