At Shangri-La Hambantota, our commitment to the environment includes planting 650+ mangroves, nurturing a landscape home to approximately 2,000 coconut trees, and protecting the habitats that support the incredible wildlife found across Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we remain dedicated to preserving the natural heritage entrusted to us for generations to come.

As part of our ongoing 10th anniversary initiatives, Shangri-La Hambantota recently hosted a two-day Eye Clinic and Hearing Check-up programme in partnership with Vision Care.

The programme benefited over 100 colleagues, reinforcing our commitment to colleague wellbeing as an integral part of building a sustainable and people-centric workplace.

A decade is not measured only in years, but in the people, traditions, and communities that become part of the journey.

As Shangri-La Hambantota marks 10 years in Sri Lanka’s deep south, we celebrated the milestone in a way that reflects the heart of the destination — with the unveiling of our Vesak pandol, traditional Udarata and Pahatharata dance performances enjoyed by a growing gathering of villagers and guests, a vibrant perahera to the resort, overnight pirith chanting, and a morning dane offered to the Maha Sangha, including 10 samanera monks.

Rooted in gratitude, community, and tradition, it was a meaningful beginning to our anniversary year.

This Vesak, our resort came alive with the creativity and dedication of our colleagues as they handcrafted a beautiful Vesak Thorana to welcome guests and visitors throughout the festivities.

Over two memorable days, nearly 5,000 visitors joined us for our Vesak Dansala, sharing in the spirit of generosity with chocolate-flavoured sago and faluda served to the community.

Adding to the celebrations, teams across the hotel showcased their imagination and commitment to sustainability through our Vesak Lantern Competition, transforming recycled materials into works of art that reflected the true essence of Vesak.

As we also mark 10 years of Shangri-La Hambantota, these moments remind us that the brightest celebrations are those shared with our community.
