Ma dal fishing is a community effort that has sustained Sri Lanka's southern coast for generations.
A large seine net is deployed from the beach, drawn around a school of fish, and pulled back to shore entirely by hand. It requires coordination, sometimes dozens of people working the ropes together for hours. The reward is a catch that goes from ocean to shore in minutes, not days.
No refrigeration, no processing plants, no distance travelled. Just the shortest journey to your plate imaginable.
