Ypsylon Diving

It’s another world, what the sea gives us. It’s a paradise.

Ypsylon Diving’s history spans across more than 40 years, starting in 1981 when Dagmar Hildebrand and Chandralal Ranasingha opened their first diving centre; it was one of the first two dive centres to open in Sri Lanka . The business grew as customers returned year after year for the friendly atmosphere and professional diving. In 1997 the center was registered as a PADI Dive Center and has since grown but maintained the same friendly and professional reputation. After nearly 30 years of training divers, in 2009 Ypsylon Diving became Sri Lanka’s first SSI Development Centre. Ypsylon Diving are a small, Sri Lankan & German owned and operated dive school based in Beruwala & Trincomalee (Nilaveli beach) on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.

Marvin Ranasingha, son of Dagmar and Chandralal, and now Manager & Owner of Ypsylon Diving has over 10 years diving experience in the waters of Sri Lanka and is one of the registered Dive Instructors at the centre.

Fortunately some of the best dive sites of the Indian Ocean are on our front doorstep. It is our ambition to make your SCUBA diving holiday as special, enjoyable and as safe as possible. Our largest dive boat has a capacity of 14 divers on-board, we also have two other smaller boats.

The diving season runs from October to May in Beruwala (west coast), and from April to October in Trincomalee (north-east coast). Our professional Dive Instructors, Masters and Guides will take you a dive trip to match your abilities and requirements. Our most popular dive trip is a two tank dive leaving in the morning each day. All dives have a guide who will brief you at the dive centre and show you the highlights of each site. Most dives are multilevel to extend your bottom time safely. Sri Lanka’s reefs are amongst the richest in the world and are home to amazing hard and soft coral, sea fans and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. Ypsylon Diving sites offer a wide variety of underwater environments.

With Ypsylon Diving you have the opportunity to follow any PADI or SSI course with specialty courses. Out Instructors guide you to reach your maximum diving potential. Your safety is our highest priority at Ypsylon Diving. For those who don’t dive, we have lots of other activities to keep you entertained such as snorkelling, kayaking, fishing, boat tours, whale and dolphin watching, jet skis & water skiing. If it is all too much you can just relax on one of our sun-beds and watch the sun go down over the Beruwala Lighthouse & Nilaveli Beach.

From Colombo you can reach us within a 50 minute drive on the Southern Highway.
