Each year, Taj Samudra, Colombo honours Earth Hour with a quiet yet powerful gesture.

Led by Area Director – Taj Maldives & Sri Lanka and General Manager, Mr. Samrat Datta, the hotel joined hands with in-house guests and associates to embrace this global movement.

On 28th March, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, lights were dimmed, the façade fell into darkness, and rooms softened their glow—marking a collective promise to the planet.

The Bharat EkSaath Walkathon, an initiative by IHCL, recently came alive across Sri Lanka, bringing together teams from Taj Samudra Colombo, Taj Bentota, and Vivanta Colombo Airport Garden. Led by Area Director Taj Maldives & Sri Lanka, and General Manager of Taj Samudra, Colombo - Mr. Samrat Datta, associates from all three hotels participated in the walk from Taj Samudra to the Colombo 01 Lighthouse and back.

More than a fitness activity, the walkathon stood as a powerful symbol of unity—extending beyond hotel spaces into the wider community. Guided by Paathya, IHCL’s sustainability and social impact framework, the initiative reflected a shared commitment to people and the planet. In Sri Lanka, where hospitality is deeply rooted in its natural and cultural heritage, every step marked progress toward a more conscious, connected future.

Honouring strength, grace, and resilience this International Women’s Day at Taj Samudra, Colombo.

Our lady associates gathered at the elegant Samudra Ballroom for a memorable celebration filled with delightful high tea, lively music, and engaging games—creating moments of joy, connection, and appreciation. The event was beautifully hosted by Mr. Samrat Datta, Area Director – Taj Maldives & Sri Lanka and General Manager of Taj Samudra, Colombo together with the HR & Training team.

A special highlight of the day was welcoming "Apeksha" and the inspiring artisans of the differently abled community. Their handcrafted creations, particularly the eco-friendly cloth bags, received immense admiration and support. In a meaningful step forward, our Housekeeping team will be purchasing these bags—supporting livelihoods and championing inclusivity.
