The bees have been busy, and so have our communities!

We’re happy to celebrate the second harvest of our Sustainable Bee Honey Farming Initiative, a collaborative effort involving Hotel Sigiriya, The Paradise Dambulla, Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort Sigiriya and our neighbouring communities.

What started with bee boxes and a little knowledge has grown into thriving colonies, new skills and another harvest of locally produced honey. Regular colony audits and expert guidance have helped keep the hives healthy, while our guests have had the chance to experience beekeeping up close and learn how honey makes its journey from hive to harvest.

Browns Hotels & Resorts continues to purchase the carefully nurtured honey from the local community, creating a meaningful source of income while supporting home-grown livelihoods.

It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to protecting pollinators, supporting local communities and strengthening biodiversity around our properties.

A sweet milestone, and we’re keeping the buzz going!

Browns Hotels & Resorts marked a significant milestone in its sustainability journey with the official launch of its Sustainability Strategic Plan – BIGG CARE, held at The Eden Beruwala, in the presence of Chief Guest Harshini Halangode, Country Programme Manager, UN-Habitat Sri Lanka, alongside distinguished guests, senior management, sustainability professionals, industry experts and key stakeholders who gathered to mark this important step towards strengthening sustainability within the hospitality sector.

BIGG CARE by Browns Hotels & Resorts, Initiative for Green Governance, Climate Action, Accountability, Resource Efficiency & Engagement represents our commitment to embedding sustainability and responsible business practices across our operations.

The official launch and presentation of the Sustainability Strategic Plan was led by Eksath Wijeratne, CEO, Browns Hotels & Resorts, alongside Prabuddha Siriwardhane Assistant Manager - Sustainability & CSR Browns Hotels & Resorts, further reinforcing the Group’s commitment to advancing sustainability across its operations. The occasion also featured the launch of the Group’s Bi-Annual Sustainability Newsletter, strengthening communication and engagement around its sustainability initiatives.

The programme featured an insightful address by Harshini Halangode, followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Senior Professor, University of Moratuwa.

A key highlight of the programme was the expert panel discussion centred on the theme “Green Governance, Climate Action, Accountability, Resource Efficiency & Engagement.”

The panel brought together Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Senior Professor, University of Moratuwa; Prof. Sevvandi Jayakody, Chair Professor, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka; Dr. Sharmen Vidanage, Country Representative, IUCN Sri Lanka; and Dr. Leonie Vaas, General Manager, Hirdaramani Group PLC, with Prashani Illangasekara, Co-Founder, AlchemX Global, serving as the moderator.

The discussion brought together diverse perspectives on advancing sustainability, climate action, resource efficiency and accountability within organisations and the wider hospitality industry.

We are excited to announce that Browns Hotels & Resorts Learning Academy is officially open at The Eden Beruwala.

Designed to bridge the gap between education and the real-world hospitality industry, the Academy provides selected youth from the community with the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification, develop practical skills and experience the workings of a five-star hotel environment – at no cost to the students.

The inaugural TVEC-approved NVQ Level 03 – Hotel Operation Multitasker Programme commenced, combining classroom learning with hands-on hotel experience.

The launch ceremony was graced by Mr. Eksath Wijeratne, CEO, Browns Hotels & Resorts; Mr. Rohan Gamage, Cluster General Manager, The Eden Beruwala; Mr. Indaka De Silva, Vice President, Bentota Beruwala Hoteliers Association; Dr. Harsha Jayasinghe, Secretary, Bentota Beruwala Hoteliers Association; Mr. Farrel Blom, Treasurer, Bentota Beruwala Hoteliers Association; and Mr. Sampath Wasala, Human Resource Officer, Kalutara Government Agent’s Office, together with the management team and inaugural batch of students.
