Slowly becoming one of Sri Lanka’s premier surf destinations on the south coast, Hiriketiya has consistent waves most of the year due to our protected horseshoe shaped bay.

Our beach has two surf breaks… a gentle break in the middle of the cove (with up to a 50m ride towards the sand) perfect for beginners, and a fast left hander on the east (can give up to a 350m ride) for intermediates and experts.

We’re also one of the only villages on the south coast that doesn’t have the main road running up alongside the beach… making Hiri safe and quiet to walk around - shoes optional!

Need a break from the sun and surf?

Sudu Villa is the perfect place to base yourself and do day trips… visit nearby temples, safaris and the turtle sanctuary, or do a cooking course, yoga class or sunrise kayak tour.

One of our favourite day trips is visiting Mulkirigala Rock Temple, about a 40 minute tuk tuk ride away from Sudu. This stunning Buddhist temple (nicknamed little Sigiriya) is built into a 205 metre high natural rock formation. The temple consists of a series of cave temples dating from the third century and includes reclining Buddhas, painted ceilings and an amazing view from the summit.

Sudu Villa is the only villa in Hiriketiya that has ocean views AND is still only a short 3 minute stroll to our famous Hiriketiya horseshoe bay lined with chilled out beach bars and restaurants. We’re also only a 7 minute walk away from the long stretch of golden sand that is Pehembiya beach.

We’re looking forward to our sunny days in August and September, our favourite time of year in Hiriketiya… when the waves are smooth, there’s less crowds and the sun shines. As you can see, our garden is loving the mix of sun and short showers. 🍃

We have plenty of undercover spaces around the villa to nestle in and escape the rain… read a book / play a board game in one of our 2 living areas, cuddle up in one of our 4 king size bedrooms or enjoy an afternoon beer or table tennis match on our massive oceanview rooftop. Recharge before you head out for another swim in beautiful Hiri beach only a 3 minute walk away.
