“Quit your job, buy a ticket, get a tan, fall in love, never return.”
The quotation in the title could be the short version of my story and how I ended up opening a Hostel in Sri Lanka.
I have always loved travelling, discovering, getting to know about different cultures and I have always had the feeling that my journey would take me somewhere far from home. When I was 20 years old I quit my school career and moved to Italy where I stayed for 4 years. I wanted to go there only for some months to get some work experience as I was working there as a tourist and hiking guide to show people the most significant sights of south Italy. But it was to hard to leave this beautiful place and all the beautiful people I had met during my time in Italy so I stayed much longer than I had planned. This is where my experience in the tourism branch started and I finally found something that really made me happy: Sharing experiences and knowledge with people who are really interested in getting to know a country with all its good and bad sides. After my four years in Italy I went back to Austria where I remained for one and a half years to become a certificated governmental proven tourist guide. After a wonderful time with lovely people and unforgettable moments I was sick of studying and decided to go traveling for some months. But that never happened. I got stuck in the first country on my list: Sri Lanka.
I had had the idea of opening a Hostel in Sri Lanka also in 2018, when my sister Tanja and I had visited Sri Lanka for the first time. But the second time we traveled through the country we found the perfect place to let our dream come true. And I want to share this place with all of you.
Also I am not alone anymore. Now I work on this dream together with my boyfriend Sumee, who has been working in tourism for a long time too. The last one and a half years he has been working as a surf teacher at the beach of Hiriketiya and will be happy to give you some good advice about surf spots, weather conditions and much more. As he is born in the zone and has lived here his entire life he knows the best spots, must-sees and all the adventures of Sri Lanka you have to put on your To-do-list before you leave the country again.
