Situated on 9 acres of tea, coffee and forest vegetation, Ellerton is an oasis of calm and quiet as well as a nature lovers paradise. Ellerton Bungalow is a lovely 9 room boutique hotel situated in Doluwa in Sri Lanka’s hill country. Ellerton’s “main house” a tea planters bungalow is over a hundred years old. Its old-world charm and understated luxury, mixed with modern comforts renders an elegant

yet informal and relaxed atmosphere. Owned by Luca and Iromi Poloni since March of 2018, Ellerton is not just a hotel, but a home. The 15 strong staff, two dogs; Sam and Booli as well as Kitty make up the Ellerton team. Located at 800 meters, the days are never too hot, and the nights never too cold. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the nine acre property is also planted with tea, coffee, pepper and cloves as well as mango, jack and coconut. Wild bore, monkeys, deer, porcupine and hare roam the property at night. Ellerton is ideally situated to visit all the popular attractions in and around Kandy and Gampola, but with the luxury of leaving behind the hustle and bustle at the end of a long days sightseeing to relax in beautiful and quiet surroundings. Just like coming home! The three cooks prepare excellent meals; be it traditional Sri Lankan or Western with an emphasis on Italian cuisine. Special dietary requirements, pose no difficulties. Ellerton is child friendly and therefore ideal for families.

Our Story

Ellerton is situated in the rural village of Doluwa in Sri Lanka’s hill country.

The main house which is over a hundred years old was once a tea planters bungalow which, to this day has retained the character of the times it was built in. This, the “main house” together with the more recent Valley and Garden houses as well as the Aurora Bungalow offer a Cozy, warm and informal atmosphere which is the perfect antidote to the tourist processing machine! Our delightful staff, together with the three house pets; dogs Polly and Sam as well as Kitty, makes it a home away from home. As children are very welcome at Ellerton, it ideal for a family oriented holiday.

The lovely people you see in the photo are, from left to right; the gardeners, cooks, our manager, the receptionists, Luca and Iromi, stewards, housekeepers, our accountant and technician.

Situated at 800 meters, it is never too hot nor too cold. There are no shops selling souvenirs around Ellerton, instead one is treated to stunning views, fascinating fauna and flora, walks, treks, tea plantations and rural life. It is also a bird watches paradise.
