Dr. Gunathilake's passion for agriculture ,wild life and Nature made him many friends who are travelers/nature/wild life lovers
that passed through Girithale,whom often stopped by at his cottage for a cup of Tea or for a home made meal and some times for an over night stay.This prompted him to go a step further and venture in to the hospitality industry. Since then "Wood Side"as it's commonly known has been a popular stop over among both local and foreign guests,specially because of the courteous service, friendly staff and excellent food served for both Asian and Western pallet. Originally targeted for the back packers as a stop over destination,today it is well known as the best run budget hotel in Girithale ! For breakfast a guest has the choice to order Kiribath ,Rotti,String hoppers,Bread from the local wood fired oven,Red and White village rice with chicken/ lake fish curry, potato,dhal(lentils),coconut sambal,lunumiris(Ground chillie and onion mix) etc or a complete English breakfast...And also a choice of fresh juices + Tea or Coffee.. Similarly an array of dishes are available for lunch and dinner on à la carte basis!
