The hills of Haputale hold the memory of Reverend Walter Stanley Senior, the English scholar and poet known as the ‘Bard of Lanka’.

His writing captured a deep affection for Sri Lanka, celebrating its landscapes, people and quiet beauty through verse.

This connection lives on through the suite named in his honour, while his final resting place remains at St. Andrew’s Church, where his tombstone bears the simple words ‘He loved Ceylon’, alongside lines from Lanka from Pidurutalagala.
