Pure Eco Bliss in Hikkaduwa!

I stayed in Room One at Guruwaththa Eco Lodge and absolutely loved my time there. The property currently has one charming round-front suite and two new suites at the back, with plans to expand to five rooms in the future — in the future there is talk about maybe a yoga space, cooking class area, bathing area, and possibly even a pool. Definitely one to keep in mind when planning future trips to Sri Lanka!

My room was spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped — it had a kitchenette with a large fridge, both a fan and air conditioning, and a comfortable bed overlooking a beautiful garden and former paddy fields. The bathroom was large with a great shower and strong water pressure, plus a big mirror and lovely eco-style design using natural stone and materials.

The property has a genuine eco feel, and the owners were kind enough to give me a tour of the grounds — they grow pineapple, woodapple, king coconut, cinnamon, peppercorns, curry leaves, and various fruit trees. Wildlife lovers will enjoy spotting peacocks, small lizards, and plenty of birdlife around the garden.

The hosts are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the price is very fair for what you get. It’s also just a short drive or walk from the beach and local shops, so it’s easy to get around while still feeling tucked away in nature.

Overall, a wonderful stay — peaceful, authentic, and great value. Highly recommend this little eco gem in Hikkaduwa!

We had a lovely week stay here over Christmas. It is family run but you have your own space. It is very peaceful with lovely views and lots of wildlife.
The room is spacious and has a small kitchen area as well as access to a washing machine. The beach is a short walk as are shops and cafes. The heart of Hikkaduwa is around rps 400 in a tuk tuk or you can walk in around 30 mins.
We look forward to coming back.
